processor.nocst=1 works for me. not sure what it is but i can boot into
xubuntu 12.04 and other distros with kernel 3x. and still have my dual
core.

turning off hyper threading in the system bios or using noacpi if I don’t the
kernel will panic. And this seems to be with any distro that has the new 3.0
kernel. The newest kernel I can use

Robert Anthony Tucker, thank you for reporting this and helping make
Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please capture the oops following
i installed xubuntu 12.04 alpha 1 with hyper threading turn off in bios
then i try all new 3x kernels with hyper threading on in bios still
kernel panic so i removed all 3x kernels and just installed kernel
2.6.38.
