Public bug reported: affects ubuntu server 10.04.3 LTS affects grub affects installation
importance high installing ubuntu server from USB, during install the USB stick is mounted on sda hence the local disks start from sdb. Since grub get's installed automatically on sda grub's boot code will land on the USB stick whereas the local HDD's boot config remains untouched. This bug seems similar to #565189 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/565189 see also user comments there). It is probably fixed for non-server ubuntu installations (at least it didn't occur when I tried to install those on similar hardware) . p.s. It actually would IMHO be a nice idea, to include such kind of configuration as an option, e.g. for security reasons, with a local hdd install requiring this USB stick i.e. for authentication. subscribe ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: grub (not installed) ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-37.81-generic 2.6.32.49+drm33.21 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-37-generic x86_64 Architecture: amd64 Date: Tue Jan 17 15:01:31 2012 ProcEnviron: LANG=en_US.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: grub ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug lucid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/917501 Title: installing server from usb grub is installed on stick To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/917501/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
