I'm experimenting quite a same behavior using vegastrike with kubuntu
feisty...
But, I don't have any sound at all : no music, no sound effects,
nothing...
My kde sound system seems to work fine since testing sound from kde
control panel is OK and sound is OK when playing video or music too...
please go to the vegastrike website and download the .run file,
then install it... See if sound works in that
