Thank you for all the information you provided for this issue. We are
sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported
bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since

After rebooting (again), video and audio codec information is shown in
Properties (again), so the issue is intermittent: sometimes, video and
audio information stops being shown in Properties, and rebooting fixes
the issue.

Please remove the duplicate status
I have already applied the workaround for bug 856988 and I do can play
mov files with totem now, so that bug is not affecting me any more. At
first, that also fixed the no-properties issue (after rebooting).
But now, again I can't see any information about vide
Ok I've realised I could remove the duplicate status myself

I see. I can play quicktime videos on Ubuntu 11.10 just fine with totem, so it
seems not to be a general issue.
I saw that you already reported a bug against totem, I'm therefore marking this
bug here as a
Well, for example the /usr/share/checkbox/data/video/Quicktime_Video.mov
file you mentioned, I can't play it either.
I think it's just ANY mov file.

Could you point to any specific files that are maybe available online
(legally available would be best ;) ) -- it is difficult to triage this
otherwise. Or if it applies to movies you take with a camera, could you

And by the way this is a regression:
Ok. I guess you can also see the test movie that is installed by
checkbox: /usr/share/checkbox/data/video/Quicktime_Video.mov ?
I saw your movie uses ffmjpeg as a codec, thats different from the one in the
movies I tried. Could you try installing all the other gstreamer plugin
modules, i.e. do s

Quicktime should be supported by a plugin in the gstreamer0.10-plugins-

whether installing it makes a difference? I can play quicktime videos

Ok that explains a lot of things.
Indeed these files can't play in Totem. Totem can't play quicktime files
at all. When I try to, it searches for a "quicktime multiplexing plugin"
which it doesn't find (well whenever Totem searches for a plugin it
doesn't have, I've NEVER seen it find it in my lif
