I installed libxine-extracodecs and restarted amarok, then it worked.

I have the same problem too, I use feisty beta
% apt-cache policy amarok
amarok:

I've waited for feisty beta, but still the same problem with amarok and mp3s.

Usually before posting a new bug report I check there's a similar bug on
launchpad.
I've seen a previous bug with a fix released but Amarok still has the same
problem:-)
