Another workaround (i've posted it too for #982706) is killing compiz with -1:

used following workaround for alt+tab issue
- disabled unity's window switcher (anyway didn't like it's window grouping
feature =) )
- enabled Static Application Switcher - this have brought me classic window
switcher. when using it - tray does not disappear when alt+tabbing in a
fullscreen
I found simply activating dash using super key in fullscreen app causes
tray area disappears too. I guess it's related to

It's 100% reproduceable on released 12.04 now. I didn't know it was
related to fullscreen and alt+tab before. I just found after sometime
tray icons except indicators disappear.
