I think you should be using the 64 bit kernel. Regardless of your use
case, I don't see any way that this change would qualify for an SRU.

There is still Software that does not run with a 64 bit kernel. And as
long as ubuntu.com recommends the usage of the 32 bit Ubuntu version,
this should be fixed.

In our case we (a development site belonging to Siemens Healthcare) have
to use a Software which uses a lot of assembler instructions and relies
heavily on the computing power of several cores. Currently we have no
time at our hands get into the hassle of porting the code to 64bit.
