Public bug reported: This is unpleasant, because the only way of turning wireless back on is to go to the network settings and disable the airplane mode. Not everyone whows that there is a keyboard shortcut for this too...
Solution: the line "Enable wireless" should't disappear and one should be able to reenable wireless form the nm-applet window ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: network-manager-gnome 0.9.2.0+git.20120126t000800.5151959-0ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-18.29-generic-pae 3.2.9 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-18-generic-pae i686 ApportVersion: 1.94.1-0ubuntu2 Architecture: i386 CasperVersion: 1.307 Date: Thu Mar 15 19:38:52 2012 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/nm-applet IfupdownConfig: auto lo iface lo inet loopback IpRoute: default via 158.195.250.1 dev wlan0 proto static 158.195.250.0/23 dev wlan0 proto kernel scope link src 158.195.251.222 metric 2 169.254.0.0/16 dev wlan0 scope link metric 1000 LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS "Precise Pangolin" - Alpha i386 (20120313) NetworkManager.state: [main] NetworkingEnabled=true WirelessEnabled=true WWANEnabled=true WimaxEnabled=true ProcEnviron: LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: network-manager-applet UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) XsessionErrors: GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_scale_simple: assertion `dest_width > 0' failed LIBDBUSMENU-GTK-CRITICAL **: dbusmenu_menuitem_property_set_shortcut: assertion `gtk_accelerator_valid(key, modifier)' failed GLib-CRITICAL **: g_str_has_prefix: assertion `str != NULL' failed GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_value_get_uint: assertion `G_VALUE_HOLDS_UINT (value)' failed nmcli-con: NAME UUID TYPE TIMESTAMP TIMESTAMP-REAL AUTOCONNECT READONLY DBUS-PATH Wired connection 1 865dea54-cad2-4176-8009-b88c7150f4b7 802-3-ethernet 1331826984 Thu 15 Mar 2012 04:56:24 PM CET yes no /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Settings/1 eduroam 3da0bac2-ab8f-4359-80cf-213c1635d5b3 802-11-wireless 1331836070 Thu 15 Mar 2012 07:27:50 PM CET yes no /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Settings/0 nmcli-dev: DEVICE TYPE STATE DBUS-PATH wlan0 802-11-wireless connected /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Devices/2 eth0 802-3-ethernet unavailable /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Devices/0 nmcli-nm: RUNNING VERSION STATE NET-ENABLED WIFI-HARDWARE WIFI WWAN-HARDWARE WWAN running 0.9.3.0 connected enabled enabled enabled enabled disabled ** Affects: network-manager-applet (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 precise -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/956305 Title: The line "Enable wireless" disappears when unticked To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-applet/+bug/956305/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
