No issue anymore. I can't say when it was fixed because I had disabled
HDMI in BIOS until now.

The new behaviour introduced by the referred commit on the kernel seems
to be correct. The problem is that pulseaudio does not distiguish
between an HDMI monitor being unplugged and entering stand-by or, to be
more precise, it handles both events the same way.
