I tried newer kernels (still on the Lucid base); with todays drm-next and
mainlines I don't get this error,
but they fail in a different way - they run with Nouveau driver but at 8bpp for
no apparent reason.
dmesg and Xorg.0.log for both attached.

I wonder if the reason for the 8bpp is the following line in the
Xorg.0.log:
(II) FBDEV(0): hardware: nouveaufb (video memory: 768kB)
In reality the card has 32MB of vram.
