Doesn't work on lenovo thinkpad r60e either.
i figured out that txpower drops to 8dBm, i just can get it working with
the command iwconfig ath0 txpower 50mW. Works well for about a few
minutes but it crashes again after a few minutes.
For some reason it worked with 7.04 (if i remember correctly)

I think I'm having the same problem, but I'm new to wireless on Ubuntu,
although I've spent many hours learning about it.
I have used wavemon and I see the card and frequency.

I'm having the same problem with an Atheros PCMCIA 5212 A/B/G card too.
If you tell network manager to connect to that network then it just
seems to continue scanning anyway and doesn't connect (it's only a few
meters from the AP). If you disable roaming and set it to use that AP

I did some additional testing:
Although the network is seen without the SSID being broadcast, since
upgrading to Feisty it can not connect to the network without the SSID
being broadcast. With the SSID being broadcast, I have been
successfully able to connect using no encryption and using WPA2
Found simular issue with the IBM Tinkpad Atheros 5212 based Wireless
A/B/G NIC after upgrading from herd 4. The issue seems to be relatet to
WPA encryption or hidden SIDs. Have succesfully tried to connectet to a
non-hidden and WEP-only enabled SID, but no luck on WPA since herd 4.
