I have the exact same problem on my Acer 1681. It hangs on Loading ACPI
modules. The slow booting can be solved though, by deleting everything
except the lo part in /etc/network/interfaces. Make sure your interfaces
file only contains:

iface lo inet loopback

By the way, I don't think it has to do with the restricted modules.. I
don't have them installed.

I can confirm Patrick's issue with 2.6.20-14. As of now with all of the
current updates, 2.6.20-14 still stops at Loading ACPI.

Am experiencing the same problems since the update I did today. Am
attaching some dmesg output (it says something about bug together with
ACPI so I am guessing it might be useful):

[ 28.26] ACPI: Power Button (FF) [PWRF]

Is the 2.6.20-14 kernel out for an apt-get yet? The apparently interim
2.6.20-13-?? still has the same issue. In other words, with all of the
updates as of this moment, I cannot boot into 2.6.20-13-?? still and am
still using 2.6.20-12.

Feisty stops booting at Loading ACPI modules
I can confirm this. 2.6.20-12 is bootable again. 2.6.20-13 still hangs
at the Loading ACPI modules step. The dmesg output I posted above
still occurs when the boot process hangs.

I am also experiencing this issue. However, no variation on the acpi
(acpi=off, acpi=force, acpi=on, noacpi) will work. This was as of last
week's updates. My Feisty install has been working fine for months
previously. Now when I try to boot from the previous kernels, they hang
at the Loading
With option acpi=off, the boot goes on but of course no battery, no
cpu scaling, and no wifi.
