(libxine-main1, Dapper, amd64) Sound distortions since security update USN-435-1

The distortions have not been happening for some weeks. Instead now I'm
experiencing hickups when playing media files over cifs-mounted samba
shares, but only once per boot-cycle so far. I could try if this also
happens when playing media files from the local hard drive. This kind of
behaviour is
This is very strange indeed! The changes to libxine in Dapper have
included very small patches to HTTP input, mms input, AVI demuxing, real
media, and DMO/DS decoders. Nothing has touched the mp3 areas, so a
solution is not yet obvious. :( Hopefully others may be able to point
us in the right
I can now for sure say that there is definitively a sound distortion,
happening on rare occasions, seemlingly random and therefore hard to
track, when using the current libxine-main1 1.1.1+ubuntu2-7.7 from
Dapper/security for playing mp3s with Amarok on my system, that has not

I think you had a typo: Prior to 1.1.1+ubuntu2-7.7, I had
1.1.1+ubuntu2-7.7, which is the same version both times. :)
If you downgrade libxine-main1 with:
apt-get install libxine-main1=1.1.1+ubuntu2-7
does the distortion go away?

Prior to 1.1.1+ubuntu2-7.7, I had 1.1.1+ubuntu2-7.6 installed (upgraded
on March, 13th).
That happens when one copy'n'pastes to often...
So far, I haven't encountered the distortion when 1.1.1+ubuntu2-7 from
Dapper/main is installed. I'll keep an ear open when
Hello! Thanks for your report!
The changes made between the various security updates have been very
small. What version did you have installed prior to upgrading to
1.1.1+ubuntu2-7.7? (Check /var/log/dpkg.log)
When security updates are made, we do our best to test them. As far as
we could
Prior to 1.1.1+ubuntu2-7.7, I had 1.1.1+ubuntu2-7.7 installed (upgraded

The distortions happening with the avi files seem to be linked to faulty
files, since it also happens when the files are played with the xine-
independent VLC, and at the same sections. So just broken files,
