This turned out to be a TTF which breaks fontconfig on Gutsy but not
Feisty (for me). I've isolated it as far as being one of these (from my
collection of about 9.000 fonts).

a general solution first, then file new reports for all affected font
packages.

opensymbol, but to every font package, so we need a decision how to
handle that. however, I never did see this break.
