Update: deleting .kde/share/apps/kmail and .kde/share/config/kmail* then
reconfiguring kmail does nothing either.

Update: direct IMAP seems to be working. Cached IMAP is still failing.
Rebuilding the indexes and cache do nothing. Also, deleting the account
and recreating it within kmail does nothing either.

It appears the updates in the last day or so have corrected the problem.

Just updated to -ubuntu18 and I'm still having the issue.
