Public bug reported: The official german update-server is down atm and therefore no software updates can't be downloaded. To my suprise I can't change the server graphically because the software-center, the auto-update program and synaptic crash without any error messages. So theres no convenient way to change the options/server because I can't access the preferences- dialog.
I couldn't append apport information because apport crashes (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/996522).
