Public bug reported:

Gnome-Shell will repeatedly crash when I use the "Activities Overview"
screen to search for programs. It first happened when I tried searching
for Firefox. Typing "f" caused Gnome-Shell to crash, completely freezing
for 10 minutes until I performed a hard reboot.

Now, typing "f" will caused it to seemingly restart. All gnome-shell
functionality will vanish for a few seconds, leaving only my desktop and
any open windows, and then reappear. Typing "f" again will cause gnome-
shell to permanently vanish, requiring a reboot to bring it back.

It doesn't seem to occur for all searches. So far, I've only noticed it
happening when I search for "firefox" and "users". In each case, gnome-
shell appears to crash after the first letter is typed.
