enabled at all. Today, I have booted the current Intrepid live CD on my old
system sporting an R100 QD [Radeon 7200], and actually, desktop effects can be

I don't know if this will fix this specific issue, but I've backported a
bunch of high importance patches that upstream recommended, that fix
problems sort of like this one, so I think it would be worth the time to
test. Please try this .deb and report what you find:

No activity does not mean that the issue has been settled. As a matter
of fact, 3D effects do not get enabled on my 'Radeon 7200' board because
of the reasons outlined above. I do not know of any distribution which
has fixed this issue ('Fedora' clearly hasn't).
I had posted earlier that adding a
rscottfree, you can determine the driver used by looking through your
Xorg.0.log file. Also, have you had a chance to try out the fix

need to kill the X server, because the screen is completely messed up, and
the desktop does not even fall back to non-compiz mode.

Use driconf to increase your max texture size, if you can. This is
either a hardware limitation or a driver bug, what video card/driver do
you have?
