Public bug reported:

This is a bug, not a wishlist. The default fonts on kubuntu are
objectively more jagged and less clear than the setup in ubuntu-desktop.

Further, the fonts in various applications such as chromium, as well as
general GTK apps, are particularly bad.

I would suggest:
* set liberation fonts as defaults across the system
* turn anti aliasing and sub hinting on by default (if it is not already)
* fix freetype config so that chromium displays properly

As a general question, does Kubuntu have a policy on default theming?
Having been forced off Unity by a serious bug in the way it interacts
with nvidia, I've been forced to spend some time customizing Kubuntu. I
suggest that the default install contain more customization that it
currently does to make the first impression of casual installers much
better. I am willing to participate in this effort if useful.
