Sorry WIlliam, red haze was well and truly down at the time and I
missed that line about syslogs. Ended up using the alternative
installer. Hate to say it but that one is way better.

The problem was visibly due to with grub/lilo with xfs... I made a 100Mo
ext2 partition for /boot directory and that's ok now !
