[Bug 54550] Re: Industrial broken in Edgy

2006-08-02 Thread Paul Nolan
I updated to gnome-themes_2.15.90-0ubuntu3 and it's still the same.

I'm not using Xgl (I have an Nvidia card, and it doesn't seem to like
xorg 7.1 very much - the text kept disappearing, so I turned off Xgl
RenderAccel)

[Bug 54888] No text editor marks text with ctr-shift-cursor

2006-08-02 Thread Victor Sergienko
Public bug reported:

Maybe it's a X11 keyboard design or GTK or whatever.
After moving form Windows, text processing experience is much worse because of
not being able to quickly mark long sequences of words with
Ctrl-Shift-left/right.
Maybe it's because I have Ctrl-Shift assigned to switching keyboard groups, but
I have the same setup in Windows - and it works. It even works someway Windows
in rdesktop on Ubuntu.

[Bug 54627] Re: http USER-AGENT remains unused at h.u.c

2006-08-02 Thread Graham Crumb
I think even we need to be careful about making functionality
assumptions based on USER-AGENT. I can think of a few scenarios where
the example you provide would be counter-productive. The most obvious
one is someone trying to learn more before upgrading. As a corrolary to
that, I run my personal workstation much closer to the bleeding edge
than the workstations I support. Most of them are still on breezy.

One place where I *do* see some benefit in sniffing the user-agent
header is software downloads. But there's not much call for that because
apt-get takes care of that issue for us. 8^)

[Bug 54889] Nsis creates non-functional installers.

2006-08-02 Thread Carthik Sharma
Public bug reported:

Package: nsis
Version: 2.06-6
Severity: important

When I run the Linux nsis-generated installer then I get to pick an
installation directory, but after that a messagebox 'Program Error'
pops up saying

epspdf.0.2.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will
  need to restart the program.

An error log is being created.

This error log turns out to be
c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\DrWatson\drwtsn32.log
and starts out as follows:

  Microsoft (R) Windows 2000 (TM) Version 5.00 DrWtsn32
Copyright (C) 1985-1999 Microsoft Corp. All rights reserved.

  Application exception occurred:
  App: (pid=824)
  When: 7/30/2006 @ 15:38:20.706
  Exception number: c005 (access violation)

If you want to I can send you the complete log.

The installer got as far as creating an empty installation
directory.

If I run nsis from Windows then I get a working installer. This is
the nsis script (I temporarily commented out shortcut creation, but
that made no difference):

  Name Epspdf

  !define EPVERSION 0.2

  OutFile epspdf.${EPVERSION}.exe

[Bug 54774] Re: add dapper-commercial to software-properties

2006-08-02 Thread Matthew East
It isn't sufficient because not everybody uses gnome-app-install.

This repository contains two commonly used applications (realplayer and
opera), and you are basically just saying: either use gnome-app-install
to install them or use the command line to play with the repositories.

This kind of package management elitism is a bad idea, in my opinion.
The repository is being offered by Canonical, it contains popular
applications, and it should therefore be included in the default
repository management application.

This was discussed briefly here:
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/sounder/2006-July/008177.html

[Bug 54892] gstreamer0.8: illegal instruction error when installing on my laptop

2006-08-02 Thread Carthik Sharma
Public bug reported:

From: Beiad Dalton [EMAIL PROTECTED]
To: Ubuntu Bug Tracking System [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: gstreamer0.8: illegal instruction error when installing on my laptop
X-Mailer: reportbug 3.15ubuntu2
Date: Mon, 31 Jul 2006 13:34:56 -0700

Package: gstreamer0.8
Severity: normal

Unfortunately I do not have another machine to verify this with. Might be a CPU
errata?

Removing gstreamer0.8-cdio ...
OIL: ERROR liboiltest.c 247: (): illegal instruction in idct8x8_s16_mmx
OIL: ERROR liboiltest.c 247: (): illegal instruction in idct8x8_s16_mmx

I get these messages during install/update/uninstall.

Also, with gstreamer plugin enabled to firefox/konqueror, both would fault when
loading a page with a background audio.

This is the processor in my laptop. Perhaps it is not knowing the instruction
that is in later MMX?

[Bug 54897] SCSI / AIC7xxx / Tape Library Problem

2006-08-02 Thread Thomas Black
Public bug reported:

Hi there

I have a problem with an Ecrix Autopak tape library on Ubuntu. This
problem first appeared in Breezy but has persisted through to Dapper.
Currently I'm running kernel version 2.6.15-26-686 SMP. This bug
prevents the use of backup programs such as Amanda and Arkeia. Steps to
reproduce are easy:

Simply load a tape into the library using mtx:

2006/7/31, Colin Watson [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Thanks for your report. Due to some reliability problems with GRUB and
XFS, you need to use a non-XFS root filesystem or create a non-XFS /boot
filesystem. The fact that the partitioner doesn't warn you about this
up-front is also bug 47848, and is fixed in dapper-updates. We'll be
doing a point release of dapper this week or so to correct this problem.

[Bug 48132] Re: Integrate with pam-keyring to securely avoid keyring password challenge

Thanks for your bug. That's not a gnome-keyring bug. Packaging pam-
keyring might be a good idea (somebody mailed ubuntu-devel list about
it) but a bug on gnome-keyring is not the right place to discuss it,
closing that feature request since that's not due to gnome-keyring

[Bug 54841] Re: rhythmbox crashes

2006-08-02 Thread Russel Winder
Rhythmbox used to work for me on my workstation but now does not. I
cannot remember when the change happened but I assume it was the Breezy
Badger - Dapper Drake change.

Whenever I run rhythmbox, it starts, the frame comes up, I can play
music but the loading continues, it seems forever -- actually it seems
to finish and then restart as though in an infinite loop of some sort.
Well until the segfault. I ran it under gdb and got:

gdbbt

It is perhaps worth noting that rhythmbox works fine on my laptop which
has the same OS so I am guessing it must be a hardware related issue or
an NFS related issue -- my workstation gets the files over NFS the
laptop does not.

[Bug 54831] Re: Executable files should appear with a color

2006-08-02 Thread Sebastien CELLES
If I want color in this listing it is because it will be much more easy
to find the name of executables that are in a package because it's a
much more common way than to look for names that are in a /bin/
directory.

Even if the permission information are not in the package file it should
be possible to get it by querying the system...

About the second part I know apt-file... I know apt-get... I know apt-
cache... but Synaptic is a Graphical User Interface and so it should
provide a common way to do this and avoid using the Comand Line
Interface... because Ubuntu is for Human ;-)

[Bug 54888] Re: No text editor marks text with ctr-shift-cursor

2006-08-02 Thread Victor Sergienko
Sorry. I believe I moved selection from specify package to I don't
know item...

The steps to reproduce are:
1. In keyboard switcher applet setup Open keyboard properties/Layout options,
set Ctrl+Shift to change keyboard group.
2. In OpenOffice.org Writer, or in GEdit, or even in Nautilus try to edit a
text or a file name containing multiple space-separated words.
3. Press Ctrl-Shift-Right.

Expected behaviour: in Windows, any edit item selects a word right to cursor.
Actual: in Ubuntu Linux, keyboard layout is changed. Then keys work as if Ctrl
or Shift is ignored, depending on what you press first.

[Bug 54886] Re: Error at the end of the Kubuntu install

Thanks for your report. Due to some reliability problems with GRUB and
XFS, you need to use a non-XFS root filesystem or create a non-XFS /boot

[Bug 54888] It's a workaround, not a fix.

2006-08-02 Thread Victor Sergienko
It's a matter of taste.
One who used to have this style of switching wouldn't like to go for other.
Maybe I can, but someone other wouldn't.
It's clearly not a bug of some particular component, rather a imperfection of
design.
It works for Other Enemy System, so why not making it work in X?

Now I clearly see it's a matter of X keyboard layout.
It would be nice to change its logic to:
a) switch on keys up, not down;
b) process the keys only if there was no other key pressed before kays went up.

[Bug 54890] Re: The GTK_STOCK_DIRECTORY icon isn't being themed

@Carthic:
thanks for proxying my bugreport. I couldn't manage to report it here for some
reason (malone said the ubuntu-artwork package didn't use malone). Hence, i
used reportbug... :)

@Daniel:
By GTK_STOCK_DIRECTORY i mean this item:
http://developer.gnome.org/doc/API/2.0/gtk/gtk-Stock-Items.html#GTK-STOCK-DIRECTORY:CAPS

While most of the other stock GTK icons are altered by Human theme, this
one isn't. And considering, that you already do have a suitable item for
this use (folder-open), and the default gorilla'ish one just doesn't fit
in the context of orange folders, I think this should be addressed. A
simple symlink or an edit of the theme xml file would do, IMHO.

I'm not sure, but I think this icon is being used in Rhythmbox (File
Open folder). Also, this icon is being used in some places in LinuxDC++
client.

[Bug 54890] Re: The GTK_STOCK_DIRECTORY icon isn't being themed

While in Gnome theme the stock_open icon is in /stock/io/, and the
context for this directory is set to Stock, in Human the same icon is
put to /status/, for which the context is set to Status. Maybe this is
the cause of this problem?

[Bug 34688] Re: Java incompatibilities with GTK theme -- Dapper Flight 5

2006-08-02 Thread Jan Mynarik
Still the same behaviour in Edgy: sun-java5 1.5.0-07-0ubuntu1. The same
exception appears as described. The menu items are higlighted even with
GTK look'n'feel, the color difference is very small though (it's almost
not visible that something is being highlighted).

Also the first thing that appears on terminal after choosing GTK look'n'feel:
/usr/share/themes/Human/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:70: Engine ubuntulooks is unsupported,
ignoring
/usr/share/themes/Human/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:240: Priority specification is
unsupported, ignoring
