i'm using thinkpad t42. i installed skype and tested using skype's echo
service. i could hear the response but couldn't hear myself.
so what i did was go to SystemPreferencesMultimedia Systems Selector.

Hi,
Debian provides a package called xfce4-xfapplet-plugin, which allows to
use Gnome appletes in a xfce4 panel.
Since Gnome has far more and significantly better plugins than xfce4, it
would be nice to have this package in ubuntu as well.

openoffice pulls it in).
I filed a similar buggy durring dapper cycle (at-spi also caused my gaim
cvs to crash).
I've now disabled them, we'll see if it makes a difference.
