[Bug 68779] System failed to Hibernate while running Beryl
Public bug reported: Soon after installing Beryl I decided to Hibernate the system for later use. When I selected hibernate the screen flashed, I saw an error stating there was not enough memory available and it bumped me back to unlock my session. I entered the password and as soon as X windows had loaded and I clicked the System menu, one of the the Beryl effects started to wobble the menu and the whole system locked up/ ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- System failed to Hibernate while running Beryl https://launchpad.net/bugs/68779 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 68779] Re: System failed to Hibernate while running Beryl
Not sure if I submitted this bug correctly as I am very new to Linux and the general Linux/Ubuntu community. I'll attack the crash file and feel free to ignore this if it isn't terribly important since it seems like a basic lack of memory from running Beryl. But it suggested I submit a bug report when it crashed, so here it is =) ** Attachment added: Crash file from 10-27-06 @ 11:50PM MST http://librarian.launchpad.net/4938618/_usr_bin_Xgl.1000.crash -- System failed to Hibernate while running Beryl https://launchpad.net/bugs/68779 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I just tried it again, this time I got a different problem: The system has reached a state where there are no jobs running. A shell will be spawned so that... etc. It had got the network connection up, but that was pretty much it. Oh well, reinstalled sysvinit. I'm planning on doing a clean install of Edgy anyway, so I probably won't be able to give much input on the bug after this. [Bug 42269] Re: Does not create a tray icon
The problem effects azureus 2.5.0 in edgy too. I downloaded the source to take a look. The problem is that many of the icons are corrupted. Take a look at: azureus-2.5.0.0/azureus/org/gudy/azureus2/ui/icons/a16.png That is the icon that should be showing up in the systray, but it's been corrupted somehow. There are a bunch of em in there that are not right. running file : a16.png: PNG image data, CORRUPTED You can quickly seen which ones by firing up nautilus and taking a look at the above mentioned folder. The ones that aren't showing thumbnails are the problems. Check subfolders, too. For instance, all PNGs in the imagebutton folder are not right. I replaced these icons with ones from upstream and rebuilt the package, and that fixed the problem. So, looks like someone needs to grab upstream again and repackage. -- Does not create a tray icon https://launchpad.net/bugs/42269 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 68781] Init scripts have permissions 0755 instead of 0754 or 0750
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: initscripts The permissions of the files in /etc/init.d are 0755 rather than what they should be (0754 or 0750). I can think of no reason why a user who isn't root and doesn't belong to the root group should be able to read the init scripts, let alone execute them. I understand that if such a user attempts to execute the script, nothing will really happen. Still though, the read and execute permissions are not necessary at all, and should be removed, if only for error control alone. An unprivileged user should be informed that they do not have permission to execute any script in /etc/init.d. This doesn't happen with the current script permissions. Again, unprivileged users should be always be informed when they have failed at an attempt to perform an action or task reserved for root or members of the group owning a file. Thank you! interesting... i had no network connection throughout the install so i'm not sure why eth0 is showing up. also, /dev/hda2 should definitely have existed. however, inspecting the partition table after the failed install, i found the table to be corrupt. i'm not sure if that happened before the grub install failed or not. if so, that might explain the failure. for the record, i manually edited the partition table at time of install. /dev/hda2 was not touched during the partitioning, though, i did choose to have it reformatted. also, /dev/hda2 was mounted as /boot rather than /. i don't see why that would've affected anything as that is the same setup i had with breezy and dapper. -- GrubInstaller failed https://launchpad.net/bugs/68541 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 61463] Wrong target.
Complain to the script authors who are making the mistake. Dash has been a viable provider of /bin/sh (by way of debconf on the dash package) for a long time. There are other shells that provide 'sh' functionality too. If a script really requires /bin/bash then it needs to start with #!/bin/bash. Analogy: If I needed a square, I would not ask you for a rectangle. Although you might give me the square that I need, since that would fulfill my stated rectangle requirements, it is not guaranteed. i remove and install firefox.. i a try to surf with it. i don't know if it's the same bug but firefox craches again. this is my trace. The program 'Gecko' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'. [Bug 68795] UI inconsistency between screens in advanced partitioner
Public bug reported: When going from the Prepare partitions screen to the Prepare mount points screen, a couple of Really Bad Things happen. First off, the user goes from a graphical layout, presented two different ways, of the disk layout, to an entirely text-based presentation of the same data. Second, and more importantly, the naming scheme of the disks changes. Going from /dev/sda1 to [sda1] isn't a huge change, but in the second instance, the partition name is hidden behind a large amount of allcaps text. IMHO, it would be far better to have the user setup mount points on the first screen - there appears to be enough real-estate to do this, and then the problem of switching from a graphical to a text-based context is eliminated. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- UI inconsistency between screens in advanced partitioner https://launchpad.net/bugs/68795 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 43745] suggestion: maybe a compiler bug?
Hi, I'm not a kernel hacker, but I'm just wondering if this could be a compiler bug in compiler (gcc 4.0.3) that is bundled with Dapper. That came to my mind because of the fact (?) that bug is not present in Edgy official kernel and other distributions. I'm using 2.6.18 kernel, the same kernel which I compiled in Dapper, and am having still the same bug. -- Ubuntu corrupts real time clock on some dell laptops https://launchpad.net/bugs/43745 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 43154] Wine on Edgy now affected by VIA 3d freezing bug
I now have what appears to be the same problem with Wine on Edgy. See bug #68761 It appears Wine now uses 3d, and we will start to see 3d calls in classpath.
