If you install Glom, it's fair to assume that you are likely to need

Turned out to be the nVIDIA drivers incorrectly installed - don't know
why. Uninstalled them, and then reinstalled them, everything works.

Same here. GMT+2 time zone and Kubuntu 7.04 daily build 20070417. In my
case it (fsck?) claimed that some time stamp was in the future, did some
tweaking, rebooted computer and kubuntu started well.

I've decided that having a running system is far more important than
preserving the configuration data stored on /etc/openvpn, /etc/apache2,
and /var (addressing the repair/restore install issue). However, I

Using the gui, you can get a non-locked session on another tty if you
use the panel applet fast-user-switch-applet, which has an option to
switch users without locking. (This option is in the Preferences of
the applet.) I will confess that fast-user-switch-applet is in universe,
not in main.
