[Bug 73429] Re: /usr/local/lib is not properly supported

2007-05-09 Thread Kjmph
I concur. Using Feisty Fawn, /usr/local/lib is still not a part of the
ld.so.cache.

Usual Linux semantics is the distro packages go into /usr/lib while
third party builds go in /usr/local/lib.

Creating and adding /usr/local/lib to /etc/ld.so.conf.d/local.conf and
rerunning ldconfig will solve this problem, but this isn't setup by
default.

RE: [Bug 113272] Re: own compiled programs appears as upgrading needed

2007-05-09 Thread Abraham J . Palma López
oh, ok. As you say i think it's not a bug. But maybe a functionality apt should
have. i mean, i need to know if there is a new version of the programs i have
compiled myself. well, i don't really 'need' it, but since update manager lets
you know when a new version of your installed programs has been released, it's
a good idea that it does the same for every package you may have installed with
dpkg.
i am not a programmer but i think something like 'Check only version number'
may work.
Then, someone could download source code, compile, make and install the
debian package of, say, version 1.0.0, without bothering at 'force version' for
that package, not having the upgrade manager asking him to upgrade that package
that doesn't need upgrade, and asking only when there is actually a new version
number. Amazing that apt let you choose between an stable and unstable
versions, but forget the packages you want to compile yourself.

Probably i have mistaken putting that like a bug, but i don't know where i
can ask for such functionality.

Then it is not a bug in samba but in kcontrol. I close this bug. If you feel
like it, fill a bug againsta kcontrol, but that would require more investing
what is not working. For the behaviour of kcontrol as of now seems to me
koherent, because? (from smb.conf)
SECURITY = USER This is the default security setting in Samba 3.0.
which means that it actually work (because if there is no security line,
security = user is used).

I'm sure I created the symlink myself. On clean Feisty liferea creates a

[Bug 113511] Left clicking the correctly spelled word in the spellchecker will not correct spelling error.

2007-05-09 Thread Madmoose
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gaim

Hello,

I'm running Ubuntu Edgy 6.10. I'm writing about a possible repeatable
bug in GAIM 2.0.0BETA3.1

The bug:
When you right click a misspelled word, and you left click the correct
spelling. It won't select the correctly spelled word. You have to right click
it to get it to work. This happens all the time to me, but sometimes it will
work. It does this on all three of my linux boxes.

To repeat bug:

Open Gaim.

Open a conversation.

Misspell a few words. Right click the spelling error, and then search
for correct spelling.

When correct spelling is found try an left click the word.

It should work sometimes, but also it will just close the menu.

Here is the gaim debugging info if you need it:

[Bug 113510] Reportbug man page only mentions Debian BTS

2007-05-09 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: reportbug

The reportbug man page says: reportbug is primarily designed to
report bugs in the Debian distribution; by default, it creates an email
to the Debian bug tracking system at [EMAIL PROTECTED]. However,
Feisty's reportbug defaults to sending bug reports to ubuntu-
[EMAIL PROTECTED], not the debian BTS.

Re: [Bug 112860] Re: drop to initramfs with linux-image-2.6.22-1.5

2007-05-09 Thread phoogkamer
Hello Ben,

You are right about the kernel. It boots with 2.6.20-15 correctly. But
I get the error on kernel 2.6.22, even in recovery mode. I will check
you're suggestion with the USB stick later on.

Greetings,

Peter

2007/5/8, Ben Collins [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
Some of this doesn't make sense. If you are running feisty, upgraded to
gutsy, then wouldn't it be 2.6.20 that works, and not 2.6.15?

Also, please boot without splash quiet on the command line (booting to
recover mode usually does this well enough).

Preferably, use a USB stick/drive that you can mount while in busybox
 and run this command:

 dd if=/proc/kmsg of=/where-you-mounted-usb/dmesg.txt bs=1; sleep 5; sync

Then reboot and attach the file to this bug report (do not paste into
comment, use the web interface to actually attach it).

 Thanks

[Bug 113515] Omits /etc/lvm/lvm.conf

2007-05-09 Thread Tore Anderson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: initramfs-tools

Summary says it all, really...

The generated initramfs doesn't have /etc/lvm/lvm.conf, yet it does lots
of LVM stuff. When you have in excess of a hundred SCSI block devices
that represent different paths to different volumes on a storage
network, and that I/O to these might initiate the volume to transfer
from one controller to another (which takes a few seconds), it's quite
problematic that LVM defaults to scanning all block devices to look for
PVs. Also, in the situations where I actually use such multipathed
devices as PVs, I will end up getting problems with duplicate PVs found,
since four of the block devices are in reality the same volume.

The solution is of course to put in a filter line in lvm.conf,
restricting it from scanning volumes it should not. But since this file
isn't included in the initrd it doesn't work as expected until I add a
custom hook that copies it in place.

PS: A similar problem is also caused by the I/O generated by the Linux
kernel itself when it scans for partition tables on all registered block
devices, making volumes bounce around and generally making everything
slow. You wouldn't by any chance happen to know if it is possible to
deactivate the automatic partition scan upon registration of block
devices?

Tore

[Bug 113519] font not found with lmodern

2007-05-09 Thread Frederik Elwert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lmodern

On Feisty with lmodern, only a blank page is generated, and pdflatex
complains about not finding the font.

Example document test.tex:

\usepackage{lmodern}

\begin{document}
This is a test.
\end{document}

pdflatex message:

Since lmodern is quite crucial for generating high-quality documents in
european languages, it would be important to get this fixed in Feisty

2007-05-09 Thread Brian Murray
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description doesn't yet
have enough information.
Please include the following additional information, if you have not already
done so (please pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by
the Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command 'uname -a' in your next response.
It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version
you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command 'dmesg dmesg.log' and attach the resulting file
'dmesg.log' to this bug report.
3. Please run the command 'sudo lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log' and attach the
resulting file 'lspci-vvnn.log' to this bug report.
4. Please run the command 'sudo dmidecode dmidecode.log' and attach the
resulting file 'dmidecode.log' to this bug report.
For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-related bug
reports is available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies . Thanks
in advance!

[Bug 84204] Re: APIC error on CPU0: 40(40)

2007-05-09 Thread intel
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 66900 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/66900

The errors have disappeared !!

Here are the things I tried (i had been googling for so long i guess)

Suggestion 1: adding boot option irqpoll
Result: No effect

Suggestion 2: Check BIOS software with intel's (firmwarekit-r1.iso) linux
Result: No effect, 1 lousy warning, No Errors.

Suggestion 3: Related to Broadcom h/w
(no idea how to use that info)

My H/W was Toshiba Satellite Pro A120, BIOS version was 1.3,
I saw 2 updates available for A120 Series
1 update for PSAE0
1 update for PSAE1

I didn't know which model i had, PSAE0 or PSAE1
I used the BIOS UPDATE for PSAE1
http://support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/bios/tecra/a8/pta83/win/bios-330win.zip
updated the BIOS from windows.

Now i haven't received these errors yet !

will report back if problem persists,
I guess Toshiba BIOS drivers for windows worked around the BIOS bugs,
Linux did not have such luxury !
