I experienced this problem (although for me the sound come back as soon
as I stop the java applet, sometime I had to stop firefox too, but I
never had to kill the X server).

Since the problem seems to have fixed itself, bug #146536 also seems to

I downloaded vino_2.18.1-0ubuntu1_i386.deb, extracted the list of files
with dpkg --contents, put the output in a file and replaced broken
/var/lib/dpkg/info/vino.list file.
If anyone could explain why one broken file crashes the entire package
management system, I would be glad to know.

Crashes when trying to record (Segmentation Fault)
I had this issue with kubuntu feisty. I deleted some files (put them in
the trash) and then i tried to flush the trash can. It wouldn't flush or
delete any files. This was because i had put a directory with a svn tree
in it, where i compiled a program with root rights. So, because of some
