I reinstalled evms-2.5.5-26ubuntu1 to see if my system would behave
better now. I'd say it was worse, as this made my system crash to a
shell during boot, when trying to fsck the filesystem used for /home.
Hitting ctrl-d made the system boot (but with no /home) to a state where
I could uninstall

In fact I can see devices, connect to it and 'Browse device...' opens Nautilus

Using xf86-video-i810 v1.7.4 (which is the REAL i810 driver, not the

Because of this and other problems I made a new fresh install on another
partition. This problem is not present in the new install.
The old install had been upgraded more or less daily since breezy or dapper so
I guess it had a lot of cruft.

the intel driver is much more BUGGY than the i810 driver. I have lost 5
days trying to fix this bug:

The solution was to use the xf86-video-i810 v1.7.4 driver, which does
not use xf86-video-intel code

Gutsy: Intel should be preferred over 810
Installed all three dbgsym packages as requested. Backtrace still looks
the same though.
