[Bug 42600] Re: Microphone does not work on Dell Inspiron 630m
I have a FS Amilo Pi 1556 and I found no way to bring to life the internal mic nor an external one. It simply doesn't work with no software in Gutsy. By the way, the installation went find and the only hint of some problem I found is a string in dmesg where it says that there is some timeout and then it's necessary to go to polling mode. Playback instead is ok. Public bug reported: I'm trying to create a mirror of ubuntu archive and releases. Catalog 'releases' contains iso images of ubuntu releases. Also, it contains HEADER.html, FOOTER.html and .htaccess files, which are used by Apache web server to build pretty indexes of catalogs. But, we'd like to setup our mirror using lighttpd because we think it better suits a task of serving static content. We could create such prettry indexes ourselves using provided HEADER.html, but the tree is rsynced regularly so it will be removed on every update. [Bug 132776] Re: gutsy livecd fails in booting w/o irqpoll option on Abit IP35-Pro motherboard
Well, this sucks! I decided to reinstall and it just won't work this time. I must have gotten really lucky before. I tried booting with 'irqpoll' and while that helps to complete the boot process, when I try to install the system it fails with an error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/rofs/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.22-14/arch/alpha' This particular error is often due to a faulty CD/DVD disk or drive. It may help to clean the CD/DVD, to burn the CD/DVD at a lower speed, or to clean the CD/DVD drive lens (cleaning kits are often available from electronics suppliers). Like I said, it worked before and when I do a CD check from the boot menu it passes with no errors. I'm attaching my 'syslog' from booting with the 'irqpoll' option. I hope it helps. ** Attachment added: "syslog" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10236715/syslog -- gutsy livecd fails in booting w/o irqpoll option on Abit IP35-Pro motherboard https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/132776 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 47597] Re: doesn't display chinese properly
As your system can display some Chinese the problem is more likely with the client application of the person sending you the email. That application is not marking the character encoding of the email, this is quite common with Hotmail and Foxmail. The workaround is to open up an email and force the email encoding: View > Character Encoding, and selected BIG5HKSCS for Traditional Chinese or GB2312 for SImplified Chinese, try the other options if these fail. If you only communicate in one character set you can set the default in Edit > Preferences > Mail Preferences > Message Display > Default character encoding. I would recommend telling the sender to simply upgrade their client application though as they will have this problem with every recipient not using the same program / webmail and character settings. -- doesn't display chinese properly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/47597 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 138256] Re: xserver-xorg-video-intel hangs the system when laptop lid is closed
The culprit appears to be xscreensaver-gl. My current combination is: gutsy default intel driver + gnome-screensaver + compiz = working. Peter's intel driver also works. If you are suffering from this bug, check if xscreensaver-gl is installed. If it is, try removing it and then report your results. [Bug 157691] Re: Gusty crashes when the lid is closed on a HP 6710b
I can confirm this with another HP 6510b.. Only that the crash happens immediatedly after pushing the lid down.. If you open the lid you'll see a frozen screen. However the lid closing doesn't always trigger the crash.. For example I can press the lid button many times and almost randomly it crashes. Re: [Bug 138256] Re: xserver-xorg-video-intel hangs the system when laptop lid is closed
Success!!! The bug is definitely related to gnome-screensaver. I noticed I had xscreensaver-gl installed previously too. I'll try a few combinations, and report my results soon. Re: [Bug 138256] Re: xserver-xorg-video-intel hangs the system when laptop lid is closed
This is not a suspend issue at all. Suspend works fine. It is resuming an X session after the screen is locked that is the problem. My laptop is a Dell 640m, with intel 945GM chipset. The bug occurs when the screen is blanked/locked under the following circumstances: Compiz enabled, intel xorg driver (using Peter's tst3 driver above). Compiz enabled, i810 xorg driver. the password prompt to unlock the screen shows up, the keyboard works fine until you unlock the screen. Then I am faced with a blank, backlit screen, with the mouse pointer visible and working. The keyboard is unresponsive. the only key that works for me is the wireless switch function key. Screen brightness does not work. The only method of recovering my computer is to hard reset tthe machine. Attached is the output of lspci -vv, my xorg.conf, and my x log . I wonder if this bug might be related to the gnome screensaver? I spoke too soon - it started happening again with ohci1394 unloaded. This only started after the recent update to the kernel - things worked fine in Gutsy up until that time. This occurs whether I use X.org's "intel" or "i810" video drivers and seemed to begin happening around the time of the kernel update - hence my belief that it is somehow kernel-related. - NOTE: I have since traced this issue to the "ohci1394" module - - evidently an update between -12 and -13 makes it not play nice with - suspend. - I have attached the following logs from /var/log - dmesg acpid kern.log user.log Please note that the "suspend failed" in the user.log is erroneous - in that case, suspend actually succeeded but gnome-power-manager is known to be erroneously reporting failure (bug 137738 - there is a patch in that bug but it hasn't been applied). -- New in 2.6.22-13: system takes a LONG time to resume from suspend https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/151016 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 17216] Re: Hard drive spindown should be configurable
Something to bear in mind as well: smartmon does not always report SMART values as you might think. Different values are stored in different ways by different manufacturers. Namely, if you do the smartctl check, wait for the click, and do it again immediately after, you may find that the amount has increased by more than one. In this case, it's a pretty safe bet that the number you're seeing isn't accurate. Also, it's a pretty safe bet (though not guaranteed) that you can get the real value by dividing by the amount it increments by. So, if the value you see first is 477,296, and then it clicks once, and the value is 477,312 (difference of 16), it's a pretty safe bet that the number you're really dealing with is more along the lines of 29,831 to 29,832, in which case you have no worries. -- Hard drive spindown should be configurable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/17216 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 157600] Re: Erratic sound availability
Jef, I checked my BIOS setting again. I'm sure I, like you, changed the setting to disable the on-mother-board audio chip when I installed my PCI audio board. But as you discovered, somehow it was reset to "enabled". I disabled it again. Ubuntu now reports only the PCI chip, not the on-board audio chip. I have sound. If sound goes away, I'll check the BIOS setting again.
