I confirm this on a fresh kubuntu gusty install. (desktop CD)
It has puzzled me several times before I recognized the problem. This is
really a severe bug.
apart from this, I like dolphin even though I was first reticent. It is

Ok, when I use your preference file i have pango error message teling me anbout
invalid UTF8.
It seems to come from the grouping char.
What character have you set for grouping char ? It seems to be a space, but
pango tell me it is \xe ?
Maybe it is because this widget can only contain 1 char

The Way:
1. Boot with Knoppix
2. With GParted delete all partition, and create: 1 swap, 1 ext3, 1 ntfs
3. Install Ubuntu to ext3 partition
4. Plugin the old drive to USB (with Sata - USB Converter, external drive)

I can verify that for me the issue was the deprecated i810 driver. I had
upgraded from Feisty (where my laptop didn't suffer this problem) to
Gutsy, but because I had manually changed xorg.conf a long while back
(for an unrelated issue), Xorg continued to use the i810 driver.

I was having this problem consistently after rebooting. My first login

I'm using Gutsy and I downloaded the i386 package version 3.0.0-3 from
the debian sid website provided above by Jakson Alves de Aquino. It had
unmet dependencies so installed it ignoring the two unmet dependencies
using this command:
sudo dpkg -i --ignore-depends=libpango1.0-0,stardict-common
One thing was out of my comment:

I had the problem that scrolling on certain websites was painfully slow with
the version of Firefox in Gutsy from the Ubuntu repository, while it worked
much faster with the vanilla Firefox version from mozilla.com . While
searching in Launchpad bug tracker I stumbled upon this

Got the same problem on two computers...
* Laptop ACER Aspire 3104 (lspcis attached)
* A desktop computer (homemade)
This problem seems to occurs randomly.
Restarting X corrects the problem.
Nothing new about this bug ?

Sometimes compiz crashes when switching desktops. I can't consistent
reproduce this. However, this does happen very regularly.
It seems to most often happen when I just logged on and try to switch
desktops before I have started any applications.

In gutsy, using the same configuration as before, I don't get tapping
(which i use for 2 finger taps only). I tracked that to the setting
MaxTapTime which gets set to 0 even though in the configuration it is
set to 100 (and the log confirms that). If I use synclient to fix

I have not been able to see a pattern in this, but as is, your bug is now

OK. In my case, it always seems to pick the first one. I have about 10
different sending profiles defined, and the default is the 5th one down in
the list.

Looking at all the comments in various forums and bug#, the freeze fenomena:
1. doesn't seem to relate to CPU type, nor to SATA, Graphics card, MB, memory
q.ty, or other hardware connected cases.
2. seems to inflict the Xserver only, and blocking the entire PC, basic VT too,
not keyb and mouse
