I'm not sure if this HDIO_GETGEO failed: Inappropriate ioctl for
device has something to do with that bug, but I attached the output of

For me the whole problem appears to be an IRQ problem because I noticed
that:
- disabling the other network card helped
- using the graphics card network at the same time made it worse: i.e: play
video in firefox
- Windows XP Home has strikingly similar symptoms

I had the same problem with 7.10 on a ThinkPad 380XD. I downloaded the latest

manually configure your wireless connection to a specific network. This
should resolve your first item you listed. Also, as far as I know, if

After a lot of experimenting, it seems to be (for me) caused by the fact
that PulseAudio is installed, but not activated properly. I find sound
is a lot more reliable when I route everything through PulseAudio. I

I have a fast box (A) with Dapper and a slow one (B) with Gusty which
since the upgrade no longer can XDMCP to (A). I've checked the hint you
mentioned and actually managed to login into (A) from (B) but when I try
to start the empty nested window the server returns:

No, I didn't upgrade. I made a clean installation of Gutsy. I erased
even the ext3 and swap partitions, and let Ubuntu create them. And no

I am not sure if I understand the problem, however, it might just be
that this issue is not relevant anymore.
if you install kalarm in gutsy, and you start it once, there is an
option in the settings (that is actually by default enabled) that
automatically starts kalarm
It was installed as 16bit? Seems that you have a laptop, so the xserver-
xorg.postinst script uses 16bit for laptops with nv because 24bit has
some issues with 16.

I have followed the instructions about 5 times now and each time it does
not create that .txt file anywhere. I do a search for it one the whole
filesystem and it turns up nothing. What am I missing here? In the
terminal it looks as if everything is going as planned, except for
creating the .txt
