have very good relationships with upstream, and when they say freeze,
that means no new features in. If the features are unstable, that is

it without the network cable attached.

Exactly, This is due to the libc6 library dependency which is
automatically added in the hardy version. These packages won't appear in
Gutsy, Hardy will be the first release to have them so if you can
install Hardy on one computer ( or a partition of your computer ) you
will be able to test these.

I also experience this bug on my up-to-date i686 gutsy install (nividia
driver 100.14.19). To clarify the original poster though, the bug is
caused by turning compiz on AND THEN OFF. i.e., it's the on - off part
that causes it, at least for me. (And turning it on again does not make
it go away.)

You have used aticonfig, and we can't fix that. The problem why you
ended up editing it by hand is bug 174434, and we are working on fixing
that for hardy. Then you can enable fglrx with the driver manager which
only makes minimal changes to the config.

The black bar is in fact a minaturised graph, as when the
system is busy you can see the colour change, so I imagine

A vanilla 2.6.24.2 kernel compiled with pmac32_defconfig DOES do the cpu
scaling with this fix. However the current hardy kernel
(2.6.23-7-powerpc) does not allow for scaling. So looks like the kernel
config is not correct. Should I make a new bug report?

Oh, the behaviour is sometimes different now though with 169.09.
Sometimes instead of the title bar going all gray/white, I get either a
blue tint or literally nothing at all. See pics.

Hmm, when I was looking at the changelog for 2.6.25-rc1, I noticed the
following two changelogs and bug reports that may address this issue:

Upstream's desktop.in.in has always had name set to GNU Image
Manipulation Program. The patch 03_gimp.desktop.in.in.patch modified
this to be GIMP Image Editor. This patch seems to have been dropped by
mistake in Hardy (the changelog mentions it being applied).
