I would say so. I had once installed the official Nvidia driver with
their installer, and some left over files caused the problem (although
the last Update to 7.10 went fine anyway). I don't see a way for Ubuntu
to solve that.

userland applications freeze, but events like screen dimming still

Just tried the -rt kernel image, without success. Computer froze in the
middle of the night with a lot of torrents active. Can't find anything

when i change the icons in system settings, after i click in aplly
apears a box updating system configuration that stars counting, go to
100% then returns to 0% and continue a loop, all i can do is click
cancel. The icons stays the same.

Can't exec /usr/bin/gconftool when starting ebox daemon

with resolutions less than 1280x1024 all was ok (i.e. at 1024x768). But
meanwhile after sebveral updates, ... the problem disappeared. But actually I
do not know which piece was responsible for that effect. My curren usplash.conf
contains
xres=1280
yres=1024

I have just reinstalled hardy heron 8.04 LTS. and i am experienceing the
same lockups. the screen completely freezes no signal from mouse,
keyboard lights ect. Also sound plays a short loop over and over for a
few seconds. last installation of hardy i uninstalled network
Bryce, are you learn-resistant? Do you have problems with the English
language, with my English? Fourth time, fourth error. Please go
outside and get some fresh air.

I am also affected by this bug on Ubuntu 8.04 x86 (32-bit). My external
(USB) rtl8187-based wireless frequently drops the connection (WPA) and
Network Manager fails to indicate this (but the Sent/Recieved count
doesn't increase) or goes to connected, but 0% connection, or goes to
100% connection
This bug is well known in release 3.6.2. It has been fixed in release
3.6.3 - please update.

this problem already whole year (((
for me she showed up one time in the floor of hour, however as a result
of this problem I lost a mysql database - mysql innodb not start -
Accertion error - did not help even innodb_force_recovery = 4,
backup was an a week remoteness - the works
