I just installed the LittleFox theme and the annoying 1px scrollbar
padding is gone. The problem is in Firefox's default theme. This could
be a dead simple CSS change for someone familiar with the chrome.
Another work-around seems to be to unset the environment variable
XAUTHORITY when upgrading or restarting atieventsd.
As in XAUTHORITY= aptitude dist-upgrade.

menu.lst was wrong (from before install of solaris) and that probably caused

I got the same Problem here scince the upgrade to kde 4.1 beta 2.
When i try to run kontact 4 i get the following error:
kontact: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/kde4/lib/libkdepim.so.4: undefined
symbol: _ZN13KRichTextEdit17mouseReleaseEventEP11QMouseEvent
Kontact ran fine under kde 4.1 beta 1.

With the latest firmware from the Hardy (8.04) repo it works OK without
modifications on the scripts or any need in using the manual uploading
script but the /etc/fstab configuration file needs to be fixed.
To do this you can type on a terminal:
echo /dev/bus/usb//proc/bus/usbusbfs
