I open files on samba shares all the time with openoffice. This issue is

I am a linux newbie but I will try and determine changes in my setup
that caused it after a fresh install of 8.10 (Beta):
Installed Proprietary Drivers 177 for Nvidia. Everything worked great.
Other Software Installed was all updates (all updates were installed from the

I second this, it's minor, but is bad-first-impression.
The difference to hardy seems to be that there is several pixel's worth

With all updates installed, I tried 6 random dvd's: with two I directly
got stuck at the language selection menu, three gave a 'failed to
connect stream error' and one actually played, but didn't allow seeking
through the track or going back to the menu.

I tried installing Ubuntu 8.10b using Sun VirtualBox 2.0, the max screen
resolution detected is only 800X600.
Host OS is Ubuntu 8.04 on Dell Vostro 1500 with max screen resolution
1280X800.
However, running live CD is fine.
