[Bug 286828] Re: Access to samba 3.0.24-3.0.25 shares using CIFS is broken on 8.10
A warning about the msdfs root = no workaround: This broke some of the drive mappings on Windows clients. Shares that are mapped via NET USE (like in a logon script) don't seem to be affected - a name is a name - but connections manually set up through the GUI seem to store some additional information and had to be reconnected manually. So much about network transparency *sigh* I took the occasion and set up a logon script which does all the mappings. This repaired some of the broken mappings automatically, but some mappings still had to be disconnected manually. There seem to be some other factors involved. Very weird. I still think disabling an unused and broken feature is a good idea anyway, but do some thorough testing and be prepared for having to fix some issues manually. -- Access to samba 3.0.24-3.0.25 shares using CIFS is broken on 8.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/286828 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 302004] Re: Please add a samba-dev package
My primary concern is this: Since the API isn't published nor stable you'd have to have a strict versioned dependency on the samba version against which your package is built. This is not a problem in itself, but it becomes one if someone has your package installed, and we publish a security update for Samba. Given the strict versioned dependency, samba will not be upgraded until your package has been rebuilt against the new samba version and subsequently published (since staying with an old samba version is considered more acceptable to apt than removing your package). Do you have thoughts on how to counter this? -- Please add a samba-dev package https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/302004 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 302004] Re: Please add a samba-dev package
I agree that letting my package hold back a security update would be a bad thing, and this would happen with a strict versioned dependency. I don't see any way to avoid this, so I propose that I don't make the dependency so strict. As you say, this has the potential to break should the API change, but this is unlikely in a stable release (as the security fix would be backported). I think that's the best that could be managed save for upstream declaring the API stable.

[Bug 268868] Re: [Intrepid Alpha 5 through Live release] NameVirtualHost entry in ports.conf causes NameVirtualHost *:80 has no VirtualHosts warning and breaks virtualhosts
Yep, figures that you can sync 'em up either way, with the ports or without. It just seems kinda buggy in that it breaks what was previously working to allow the -potential- for ssl virtual hosts. Seems like at least a simple change to documentation in the new ports.conf file along the lines of the documentation below, saying something like Match all appropriate VirtualHost * entries to VirtualHost *:80 to correspond with the NameVirtualHost *:80 would make explicit the change as opposed to just introducing a new warning without documenting the solution. :p From the NEWS.Debian documentation: apache2 (2.2.9-3) unstable; urgency=low * The directive NameVirtualHost * has been changed to NameVirtualHost *:80. It has also been moved from sites-available/default to ports.conf. This allows to ship a proper SSL default virtual host config in sites-available/default-ssl, but it means that if you use several name based virtual hosts: - you will have to change VirtualHost * to VirtualHost *:80 in your name based virtual hosts - you need to add more NameVirtualHost directives if you use other ports than 80 with name based virtual hosts. You may also have to add these ports to the default virtual host in /etc/apache2/sites-available/default (like this: VirtualHost *:80 *:81). If you prefer to revert to the old setup instead (and don't need the default-ssl host), just change NameVirtualHost *:80 back to NameVirtualHost * in ports.conf and VirtualHost *:80 to VirtualHost * in sites-available/default. * For mod_disk_cache, caching is again disabled in disk_cache.conf by default. It usually makes more sense to enable this on a per-virtual host basis. -- Stefan Fritsch [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon, 30 Jun 2008 19:47:52 +0200 -- [Intrepid Alpha 5 through Live release] NameVirtualHost entry in ports.conf causes NameVirtualHost *:80 has no VirtualHosts warning and breaks virtualhosts https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/268868 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to apache2 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 239752] Re: package dovecot-common 1:1.0.10-1ubuntu5.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
I have managed to get around this problem. It appears to be due to the presence/non-presence of some directories and files. I made sure the following were present: /var/run/dovecot/login /var/run/dovecot/login /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf I was then able to reinstall dovecot-common There is a bug 255367 which has this information in it. There was also another problem when tring to start dovecot. [Bug 181977] Re: Mutiple file transfers appear to cause libmtp to hang
By the way has anyone tried this using the newest version (0.9) of mtpfs? I'll also try to build it from source and try if the bug gets fixed that way. Then the solution would be simple enough: update mtpfs from upstream. I'll also try what Gordon did (deleting files via bash) and see if I get the same problem with the current package version (and also 0.9). In case someone just needs a nice way to use their Zen player and doesn't care about the mounting aspect, you can use gnomad2 which seems to work very nicely with my Zen 8GB. [Bug 296167] Re: X.org will intermittently stop responding to mouse clicks on Ibex with Xinerama
confirmed and killing my productivity... this may be helpful in tracking it down. system specs: Ubuntu 8.10 Intel Q6600 @ 3.2Ghz Asus P5E WS Pro Mainboard 8GB ram 2 x Nvidia 8600GTS (177.80 drivers) Screen setup: 3 screens, each a separate x session all merged with xinerama, arranged from left to right as: GPU0(screen0), GPU1(Screen0), GPU1(screen1). All normal orientation and all 1680 x 1050 screens. Always appears to happen when the mouse is moving across the GPU boundary. And here is the interesting bit that may help solve this. I often run 1 application on each screen but not maximized to the screen, there is a one inch gap or so around the edges of each application window on each screen. The apps that are on GPU1S0 (middle) and GPU1S1(right) have custom cursor icons, when the mouse bugs out, if i move the mouse to GPU0S0 (left) and put it in the area where the windows are on the other screens, the cursor icon changes and moving it around more subtly i can get the various cursor from the apps that are running on the other 2 screens (2 instances of the same app so i can't tell which screen X thinks the mouse is really on). Clicking anywhere has no effect, despite attempts to click on the left screen to create action on one of the others. Testing: To test this hypothesis i setup 3 instances of xev, one on each screen roughly the same size and in the same place. I trigger the bug (waving mouse back and forth quickly across the gpu boundary seems to be 100% effective at causing this in a short amount of time, thus i recommend everyone avoid doing this when you don't want to reboot X). results: movement on GPU0S0 (left) in the area of the xev window on GPU1S0 (center) triggers events on the xev on GPU1S0 (center), indicating that X thinks the mouse is one screen to the right of where it is displayed, presses and releases are also recorded although they have no effect on running applications (probably because the coordinates sent to the app are out of bounds). Mouse movement / events anywhere on GPU1S0 or GPU1S1 cause no xev events on any screen indicating its not simply an off by 1 screen issue. this and everything else we've seen indicates to me this is a problem in handing off cursor control from 1 gpu to the the other gpu. I'm out of time tonight but i will try disabling hardware acceleration of the cursor to see if it has any effect on this. I could also rearrange my screens to further test the GPU boundary theory. cheers, x -- X.org will intermittently stop responding to mouse clicks on Ibex with Xinerama https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/296167 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
