I can confirm that the libc in cjwatson's PPA fixes the problem I was having on
my network where Intrepid was having normal interaction with the nameserver,
but jaunty was unable to reach Ubuntu domains. A strace of a failing w3m

The difference, as I see it, is that when you press mute at any given
volume level and then un-mute it, it should go back to the level it was
at when muting it originally. Currently mute=0 as far as I can tell.
This means that pressing mute means literally, go to 0%. It is a
fundamental difference

Appearance Visual Effects to none does not rectify the problem.

I experienced this identical bug after upgrading from Hardy to Intrepid.
Network Manager didn't segfault, but it would refuse to connect to any
wireless networks. I finally fixed it by running 'apt-get remove --purge
network-manager' followed by 'apt-get install network-manager-gnome'.
