[Bug 341367] Re: Update to 3.2
Hello Ken, Your opal build lacks several codecs. I know some of them are not suitable for world wild shipping because of patents (iLBC, H263, H263+, H264, MPEG4), still they are *very* useful for interoperability and for quality. I propose the following: build all codecs, and spilt them from the main opal package as they are plugins and move them to multiverse. Ekiga will find them at run time if installed. I also propose you to build a meta package named "ekiga-full-non-free" including all those codecs to help users find them easily. The audio codec iLBC is in OPAL, no more dependancy. The video codecs H263, H263+, MPEG4 are probably in libavcodec-unstripped-52 The video codec H264 is in libx264-65 There is also the CELT audio codec which is in libcelt0. I'm not sure, but I believe this one is free. Best regards and thank you for the effort. [Bug 346621] [NEW] Standing FF exception for nouveau-kernel-source, xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nouveau-kernel-source I'd like to request a standing feature-freeze exception for the two nouveau packages for Jaunty: the DDX package xserver-xorg-video-nouveau and the DRM module built from the nouveau-kernel-source package. The nouveau drivers are currently experimental, and haven't seen a formal release. While Red Hat is paying darktama to work on them full time, and will be attempting to switch the default nvidia driver from nv to nouveau either in Fedora 11 or 12, the code is still undergoing a fair bit of flux. As such, the best way to help users and upstream is for the Ubuntu packages to follow upstream git fairly closely. As the nouveau drivers were not included in Intrepid, and these packages are only used by people explicitly choosing to test nouveau, the risk of regressions is low. ** Affects: nouveau-kernel-source (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Standing FF exception for nouveau-kernel-source, xserver-xorg-video-nouveau https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/346621 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 290098] Re: Totem video player keeps playing in slow motion.
Charles, I have since moved from Ubuntu to Mint because of a few lingering issues that I got tired of trying to fix. If you want an OS that works 99% out of the box I would try Mint. I know this isn't a fix as much as it is a work around but Mint is built on Ubuntu and they have pretty much set up everything you need for a fully functional OS. In most cases the wireless drivers work right off the bat and you don't have to try to load windows wireless drivers. If you do have to load windows drivers they have a tool setup already for you so you just get the .ini file for your wireless card and you are off to the races. One of the coolest things is that you can play DVDs without having to load additional plugins or codecs and java is already loaded. Jordan, the "rm -rf build" is in the clean target -- this is only used for cleaning up the tree after a build and before a new one. [Bug 234169] Re: firefox 3b5 crashes after a blank windows pops-up
Hi all. Excuse me for taking me so much time to answer. The fact is that I will continue using Ubuntu 8.04 for a while and I will not be able to test it in a newer version in my computer in the near future - just hardware issues. Sure you already know this, but just in case, this is an extract from mozilla.addons.org page for the flashblock plugin: "All RECENT crashes on Ubuntu have been traced to one of two problems (this may apply to gentoo and other debian based distros). 1. You are using the Firefox version from the Ubuntu repositories. Install the official tarball from mozilla.com Most people on Unbuntu report that the official release from mozilla doesn't crash in the same circumstances that Ubuntu Firefox crashes. Also the official tarball is reported to be much more stable. 2. You are using Flashplayer 10 beta on Ubuntu. Users have reported that Flashplayer 9.0 r124 don't crash for those specific pages. Unfortunately Flashplayer 9.0 r124 crashes with RealPlayer streams and 10 Beta doesn't crash in this case. [Bug 346609] [NEW] Sun Java 6 JRE does not use ca-certificates for SSL
Public bug reported: Sun Java 6 does not use the Debian/Ubuntu ca-certificates system for SSL root certificates. This means that, for example, installing a corporate CA certificate using the system-wide ca-certificates mechanism will NOT result in it being trusted by Sun Java 6. This can be fixed by symlinking /etc/java-6-sun/security/cacerts to /etc/ssl/certs/java/cacerts. However, that will result in the following CAs (which are currently trusted in Java 6) no longer being trusted. If that presents a problem, they should be added to ca-certificates. The certificates are: CN=Baltimore CyberTrust Code Signing Root, OU=CyberTrust, O=Baltimore, C=IE CN=GTE CyberTrust Root 5, OU="GTE CyberTrust Solutions, Inc.", O=GTE Corporation, C=US CN=TC TrustCenter Class 2 CA II, OU=TC TrustCenter Class 2 CA, O=TC TrustCenter GmbH, C=DE CN=TC TrustCenter Class 4 CA II, OU=TC TrustCenter Class 4 CA, O=TC TrustCenter GmbH, C=DE CN=TC TrustCenter Universal CA I, OU=TC TrustCenter Universal CA, O=TC TrustCenter GmbH, C=DE OU=Security Communication EV RootCA1, O="SECOM Trust Systems CO.,LTD.", C=JP ** Affects: ca-certificates (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: sun-java6 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: ca-certificates (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Sun Java 6 JRE does not use ca-certificates for SSL https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/346609 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Here's how I fixed it on my system: # Create symlink for amarok to find the script sudo ln -s /usr/share/apps/amarok/scripts/soundkonverter /usr/share/apps/soundkonverter/amarokscript/ cd /usr/share/apps/soundkonverter/amarokscript/ # Replace bad script rm soundKonverter.rb wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/18982229/soundKonverter.rb # Create spec file sudo vim soundKonverter.spec Now paste this into the .spec file: -START CUTTING HERE- name = SoundKonverter type = transcode [Transcode] target_formats = mp3 ogg flac m4a mp4 wav -STOP CUTTING HERE- Save that file. Now the next problem is that the transcode job will use "Very low" setting no matter what setting is chosen in the script's configuration in amarok. I looked at the script, and saw it was looking for a 'config' file, so I created one. It's probably a matter of having no write access to this directory to create one. I put one of the following settings on a single line: Very_low Low Medium High Very_high # EXAMPLE: set transcoding option to Very_high cd /usr/share/apps/soundkonverter/amarokscript/ echo 'Very_high' > config Perhaps the best way would be to install the script into the user's home directory like you posted before. I would think another solution would be to symlink any config files into the user's home dir, but then what happens with multiple users? Perhaps there's a way I do not know of using the debian packaging tools to set configuration files to a directory based on user. Please fix these bugs in 0.3.9 ;-) -- SoundKonverter is not called from Amarok https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/285387 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks Paul. I have since downgraded my system to Hardy Heron, and won't be able to upgrade until this problem is fixed; printing multiples of a file properly is essential for my business. [Bug 298494] Re: OpenOffice.org Impress: Faltering embedded sound in PPS files
FYI I have both Gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly 0.10.6 and gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse 0.10.7-2. So I guess that Gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly brings functionnalities that gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse doesn't bring. For example, a French user said he couldn't read .MPC files in Rythmbox any more after uninstalling Gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly. Another could not read .WMA files any more... So the solution of this bug is not to uninstall Gstreamer0.10-plugins- ugly, but to find which version(s) of Gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly bring the bug. For the moment, Gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly 0.10.9 (current version) is not ok (BUG) Gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly 0.10.6 is ok. (NO BUG). We should ask the owner of Gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly to check which modifications have been brought since 0.10.6. [Bug 346591] Re: unbuildable due to fix for bug 305565
I've been doing some research on this: The reason the build-conflict was introduced in the debian-package was a solution to http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=407800, where seahorse-agent would crash on startup with gnupg-agent running. The developers since fixed this issue, see http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454469. Thus the build- conflicts is no longer needed, yet remained in our package. I tested a built without the build-conflict and seahorse and seahorse- agent work fine, except for the issue described in bug #217270, which happens when gpg-agent is started before seahorse-agent. -- unbuildable due to fix for bug 305565 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/346591 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
