[Bug 44233] Re: mount udf dvd fails, possible wrong fstab entry

2009-03-21 Thread Daniel Eckl
The problem I reported is solved lng time ago.
You (and many of the reporters above your post) do have another bug, which has
to do with some (special? broken? too recent?) UDF versions not recognized by
Linux.

See comment 35
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/util-linux/+bug/44233/comments/35

Please file a new report for this. Hijacking of bug reports will not get
your bug to the right people.

2009-03-21 Thread FaberfoX
Running jaunty up to date, services tab is nowhere to be found.
Does this mean there's no way to turn services on and off from gnome?
Talk to upstream? Am I the only one that thinks this is ridiculous?

[Bug 341367] Re: Update to 3.2

2009-03-21 Thread Yannick Defais
Hello Ken,

Your opal build lacks several codecs. I know some of them are not
suitable for world wild shipping because of patents (iLBC, H263, H263+,
H264, MPEG4), still they are *very* useful for interoperability and for
quality.

I propose the following:
build all codecs, and spilt them from the main opal package as they are plugins
and move them to multiverse. Ekiga will find them at run time if installed. I
also propose you to build a meta package named "ekiga-full-non-free" including
all those codecs to help users find them easily.

The audio codec iLBC is in OPAL, no more dependancy.
The video codecs H263, H263+, MPEG4 are probably in libavcodec-unstripped-52
The video codec H264 is in libx264-65

There is also the CELT audio codec which is in libcelt0. I'm not sure,
but I believe this one is free.

Best regards and thank you for the effort.
Yannick

[Bug 334657] Re: Subpixel/Lcd mode makes qt4 applications on Jaunty unreadable

2009-03-21 Thread TJ
Confirmed here too. I've been seeing this with VLC since the start of
the Jaunty development cycle but as I rarely use it didn't bother about
it. I then found that Skype suffered the same problem. I tried using
qtconfig-qt4 and it suffered the same.

Originally I thought this was a font-file or font-cache corruption issue
but can confirm that disabling the sub-pixel font rendering does work-
around the issue although makes every other window's fonts look very
grainy.

Raising the importance and setting a milestone.

[Bug 346621] [NEW] Standing FF exception for nouveau-kernel-source, xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

2009-03-21 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nouveau-kernel-source

I'd like to request a standing feature-freeze exception for the two
nouveau packages for Jaunty: the DDX package xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
and the DRM module built from the nouveau-kernel-source package.

The nouveau drivers are currently experimental, and haven't seen a
formal release. While Red Hat is paying darktama to work on them full
time, and will be attempting to switch the default nvidia driver from nv
to nouveau either in Fedora 11 or 12, the code is still undergoing a
fair bit of flux. As such, the best way to help users and upstream is
for the Ubuntu packages to follow upstream git fairly closely.

As the nouveau drivers were not included in Intrepid, and these packages
are only used by people explicitly choosing to test nouveau, the risk of
regressions is low.

[Bug 290098] Re: Totem video player keeps playing in slow motion.

2009-03-21 Thread Tom Muse
Charles,
I have since moved from Ubuntu to Mint because of a few lingering issues that I
got tired of trying to fix. If you want an OS that works 99% out of the box I
would try Mint. I know this isn't a fix as much as it is a work around but
Mint is built on Ubuntu and they have pretty much set up everything you need
for a fully functional OS. In most cases the wireless drivers work right off
the bat and you don't have to try to load windows wireless drivers. If you do
have to load windows drivers they have a tool setup already for you so you just
get the .ini file for your wireless card and you are off to the races. One of
the coolest things is that you can play DVDs without having to load additional
plugins or codecs and java is already loaded. You can go straight to Youtube
without having to load a single thing.

http://www.linuxmint.com/download.html
Hope this helps.

[Bug 334284] Re: Timezone map cities are incorrectly placed

2009-03-21 Thread Vishal Rao
Adding "me too" for India. Unable to select the IST (UTC+530) timezone
with incorrect highlighting. It's not important to be able to select the
traditional city (Calcutta/Kolkata) itself, just being able to click
anywhere in the red coloured country area should be fine. I will re-test
and report back once Jaunty Beta is released.

[Bug 337469] Re: import matplotlib.pyplot gives ImportError: No module named _tkagg

2009-03-21 Thread Andrew Straw
Jordan, the "rm -rf build" is in the clean target -- this is only used
for cleaning up the tree after a build and before a new one. "dh-clean
build", which I removed, was breaking if the build directory wasn't
there, whereas the rm command does not break. Really, I should probably
test for the existence of the directory and only delete it in that case,
but I couldn't remember the syntax, whereas "rm -rf" is pretty much
hardwired into my spinal ganglia.

[Bug 221595] Re: keyboard shortcuts don't match with functions in Impress

As sergio.callegari it appears that OOo may be detecting the type of
keyboard you have to determine what keyboard shortcuts to use...

So my question is for the people who are seeing this problem with
impress:

1. What kind of keyboard do you have?
2. What is the locale setting?

Thanks,

[Bug 283811] Re: cups says "can't promp for authorization" when printing to my samba printer

2009-03-21 Thread Paul Dufresne
I have just added bug #314543 as a duplicate of this one.
Looks like I will choose this bug as the main one.
Yeah, just also added bug #305030 as duplicate of this one.

>From bug #314543, we learned that an other possible symptom of this bug is:
After creating network printer, first job is printed Ok, but any job sent after
is rejected.
When trying to print from text editor the following message appears:
ERROR PRINTING, Too many failed attempts

We also just learned that the new (improved) workaround is working:
"Thanks Paul,
I have checked the /etc/cups/printers.conf, and after reading bug #283811, I
have changed the line to:
AuthInfoRequired none
and it is working now for Eclipse and Firefox; therefore I can confirm that is
the same bug, but with another symptom."

So it looks that just this line is enough. The "auth-info-supported
none" seems not needed.

[Bug 346613] [NEW] intel 2200 won't offer WPA2 as option

2009-03-21 Thread clickwir
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: knetworkmanager

I have an Acer Aspire 3000 WLCi with an Intel Pro 2200 wireless card. My
wireless network is WPA2. It's currently running Kubuntu Jaunty that was
just reinstalled with a daily build ISO from yesterday and fully updated
as of 20 mins ago. Rebooted and still no WPA2 option. WEP and WPA, sure,
but no WPA2.

WPA2 works fine on Kubuntu Intrepid and Windows XP on the same machine.
Trying to use WPA, just for the hell of it, doesn't connect. The
networking applet does see my network and 3 others.

What would you like me to provide to help narrow down the issue?

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to

[Bug 346611] [NEW] [jaunty] Incorrectly detects screen resolution of Samsung 225BW

2009-03-21 Thread Tom Haddon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I have a Samsung 225 BW external monitor with resolution of 1680x1050.
If I plug the monitor in after logging into Gnome and run "Display" from
"System -> Preferences" it only gives me the option of displaying up to
1280x1024. If I start my computer with the monitor plugged in, it only
gives me the option of a resolution up to 1024x768.

In Intrepid, the first of these issues was also the case, but if I
started my laptop with the external monitor already plugged in, it would
detect the available resolutions correctly and by default would use the
correct 1680x1050 display.

[Bug 234169] Re: firefox 3b5 crashes after a blank windows pops-up

2009-03-21 Thread flbulgarelli
Hi all.

Excuse me for taking me so much time to answer. The fact is that I will
continue using Ubuntu 8.04 for a while and I will not be able to test it
in a newer version in my computer in the near future - just hardware
issues.

Sure you already know this, but just in case, this is an extract from
mozilla.addons.org page for the flashblock plugin:

"All RECENT crashes on Ubuntu have been traced to one of two problems
(this may apply to gentoo and other debian based distros).

1. You are using the Firefox version from the Ubuntu repositories.

Install the official tarball from mozilla.com Most people on Unbuntu
report that the official release from mozilla doesn't crash in the same
circumstances that Ubuntu Firefox crashes. Also the official tarball is
reported to be much more stable.

2. You are using Flashplayer 10 beta on Ubuntu.

Users have reported that Flashplayer 9.0 r124 don't crash for those
specific pages. Unfortunately Flashplayer 9.0 r124 crashes with
RealPlayer streams and 10 Beta doesn't crash in this case. So I guess
it's one crash or the other."

[Bug 346609] [NEW] Sun Java 6 JRE does not use ca-certificates for SSL

2009-03-21 Thread Richard Laager
Public bug reported:

Sun Java 6 does not use the Debian/Ubuntu ca-certificates system for SSL
root certificates. This means that, for example, installing a corporate
CA certificate using the system-wide ca-certificates mechanism will NOT
result in it being trusted by Sun Java 6.

This can be fixed by symlinking /etc/java-6-sun/security/cacerts to
/etc/ssl/certs/java/cacerts. However, that will result in the following CAs
(which are currently trusted in Java 6) no longer being trusted. If that
presents a problem, they should be added to ca-certificates. The certificates
are:
CN=Baltimore CyberTrust Code Signing Root, OU=CyberTrust, O=Baltimore, C=IE
CN=GTE CyberTrust Root 5, OU="GTE CyberTrust Solutions, Inc.", O=GTE
Corporation, C=US
CN=TC TrustCenter Class 2 CA II, OU=TC TrustCenter Class 2 CA, O=TC

CN=TC TrustCenter Universal CA I, OU=TC TrustCenter Universal CA, O=TC

[Bug 296045] Re: Onboard SiS900 Ethernet Interface probing fails (No MII transceivers found)

2009-03-21 Thread Mr. Mike
I found this because I was search for "no MII transceivers", but my
problem is slightly different.

I have the same SiS900 onboard card, in lspci -vvnn, it shows the same
vendor/product code [1039:0900] followed by "(rev 90)".

The card works find on first boot, but after a suspend/resume cycle, I
get the "no MII transceivers found" error in dmesg and the card does not
work. rmmod sis900/modprobe sis900 do not bring it back.. it requires
a reboot.

Not sure if this helps any, maybe the driver is properly initializing
the card? In FinAck's case, on first boot, but in my case, after
resume?

[Bug 285387] Re: SoundKonverter is not called from Amarok

2009-03-21 Thread TrinitronX
This package is broken in Intrepid. Out of box, amarok does not find the
script, it does not have a .spec file to tell amarok to use it as a
transcoder, and the script is broken until using this version.

Here's how I fixed it on my system:

# Create symlink for amarok to find the script
sudo ln -s /usr/share/apps/amarok/scripts/soundkonverter
/usr/share/apps/soundkonverter/amarokscript/
cd /usr/share/apps/soundkonverter/amarokscript/
# Replace bad script
rm soundKonverter.rb
wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/18982229/soundKonverter.rb
# Create spec file
sudo vim soundKonverter.spec

Now paste this into the .spec file:
-START CUTTING HERE-
name = SoundKonverter
type = transcode

[Transcode]
target_formats = mp3 ogg flac m4a mp4 wav
-STOP CUTTING HERE-

Save that file. Now the next problem is that the transcode job will use
"Very low" setting no matter what setting is chosen in the script's
configuration in amarok.

I looked at the script, and saw it was looking for a 'config' file, so I
created one. It's probably a matter of having no write access to this
directory to create one.

I put one of the following settings on a single line:

Very_low
Low
Medium
High
Very_high

# EXAMPLE: set transcoding option to Very_high
cd /usr/share/apps/soundkonverter/amarokscript/
echo 'Very_high' > config

Perhaps the best way would be to install the script into the user's home
directory like you posted before. I would think another solution would
be to symlink any config files into the user's home dir, but then what
happens with multiple users? Perhaps there's a way I do not know of
using the debian packaging tools to set configuration files to a
directory based on user.

Please fix these bugs in 0.3.9 ;-)

2009-03-21 Thread Chris Cheney
openoffice.org-dev-doc does already register with doc-base... So this
looks like it might be a bug in yelp itself?

Description: utilities to manage online documentation
This package contains utilities to manage documentation installed on

[Bug 298494] Re: OpenOffice.org Impress: Faltering embedded sound in PPS files

2009-03-21 Thread YannUbuntu
FYI I have both Gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly 0.10.6 and
gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse 0.10.7-2.
So I guess that Gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly brings functionnalities that
gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse doesn't bring.
For example, a French user said he couldn't read .MPC files in Rythmbox any
more after uninstalling Gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly. Another could not read .WMA
files any more...

So the solution of this bug is not to uninstall Gstreamer0.10-plugins-
ugly, but to find which version(s) of Gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly bring
the bug.

For the moment,
Gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly 0.10.9 (current version) is not ok (BUG)
Gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly 0.10.6 is ok. (NO BUG).

We should ask the owner of Gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly to check which
modifications have been brought since 0.10.6. Does anyone know how to
contact him?

should not be able to crash in a manner that would take out the whole

The same problem occurs in Ubuntu 8.10

Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used

That's a better explanation than Microsoft would give, however,

one would have to know how to use "sudo" commands to change or redirect
cdrom mount_points!

I don't even understand the very basics of "sudo" such as finding true
directories from moun_point directories or "link points" I wish Linux
could accept FREE DOS commands and batch file commands.

Please keep me posted about the software change in Synaptic Package
Manager or complete line by line (with explanations for each line, for
someone that knows DOS) "sudo" commands to fix this medium if not high
alert problem.

Who changes mount_point directories in an OS, and then does not update older
software that still thinks the CD-ROM drive is in /cdrom/ directory?
Or at least creates a patch in /cdrom/ that redirects the software to look in
/media/ directory?

Anyway, that's the problem when one does not get paid to write "free"
programs, the motivation, and perhaps the time, to quickly fix it, just
is not available.

I appreciate all YOUR hard work, and applaud YOUR efforts to help the
"little guy", the underdog!

If I had expert knowledge about LInux programming I would try to help!

[Bug 346601] [NEW] 8.10 intermittently hangs on boot before login screen

2009-03-21 Thread jimhall
Public bug reported:

Running 8.10 AMD64 version. The boot process hangs before the login
screen, around 20% of the time. The machine is completely frozen (alt-f1
doesnt respond, caps lock doesnt light up on keyboard). When this
problem occurs I have to cold boot the PC until it starts up
successfully.

The point it hangs is right after the Ubuntu logo but before the login
screen. If a disk check is scheduled it will occur before the pc hangs.

I regularly do upgrades but these haven't fixed the problem.

I've tried various boot options such as acpi=off and noacpi but these
haven't made any difference.

I've looked at syslog and it's often just after the bluetooth daemon (I don't
have bluetooth):
Mar 15 21:15:41 64ubu810 bluetoothd[5660]: Bluetooth daemon

Sometimes it hangs straight after this line, sometimes its a short while
later.

Hardware includes:
Graphics card is intel 915 (incompatible with jaunty alpha releases so far)
CPU is Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz

[Bug 346600] [NEW] fast-user-switch restart/shutdown dialogues do not always appear

2009-03-21 Thread Paul Broadhead
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fast-user-switch-applet

Description: Ubuntu jaunty (development branch)
Release:9.04

fast-user-switch-applet:
  Installed: 2.24.0-0ubuntu9
  Candidate: 2.24.0-0ubuntu9
  Version table:
 *** 2.24.0-0ubuntu9 0
500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Bug #283095 introduced new confirmation dialogue boxes to the Restart
and Shutdown options of the fast user switch. While I like these
dialogues, they do not always appear when you select the Restart or
Shutdown options. Sometimes, instead of the dialogue opening, the
action is taken immediately. I am unable to reliably reproduce this
faulty behaviour but it happens quite often.

[Bug 346159] Re: Closing or removing indicator-applet does not restore correct GNOME behavior

2009-03-21 Thread Andrew Starr-Bochicchio
Not that you're attitude makes me want to help you, but if you want
Pidgin (which isn't part of GNOME btw) to behave the way you think it
should. Simply go to: Tools -> Preferences -> System Tray Icon and
change it to "Always." No need to install or un-install any thing.

Rhythmbox minimizes to tray correctly for me with the plugin enabled.

You can question the usefulness or readiness of the new applet, but the
argument that it "breaks standard GNOME behavior" is just simply un-
true. Applications which permanently sit in the notification area not
following standard GNOME behavior.

>From the GNOME Human Interface Guidline [1]:

"The utility of the notification area decreases rapidly when more than
about four icons are always present. For this reason, icons that appear
only temporarily in response to events are preferable."

The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.

  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line

[Bug 346591] Re: unbuildable due to fix for bug 305565

2009-03-21 Thread Andreas Moog
I've been doing some research on this:

The reason the build-conflict was introduced in the debian-package was a
solution to http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=407800,
where seahorse-agent would crash on startup with gnupg-agent running.
The developers since fixed this issue, see
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454469. Thus the build-
conflicts is no longer needed, yet remained in our package.

I tested a built without the build-conflict and seahorse and seahorse-
agent work fine, except for the issue described in bug #217270, which
happens when gpg-agent is started before seahorse-agent.

[Bug 325868] Re: huge fonts

2009-03-21 Thread Alexander Sack
please consider to test "ubuntu" dailies (not kubuntu) ... we switched
to "pixel" sized fonts by default in gnome now so they should be better
on high dpi screens.

Some apps have regressions from it, but the general gnome desktop and
most gtk apps should be fine if they dont do their own font handling.
see bug 345189 which tracks the regressions.

Let us know.
