[Bug 346704] [NEW] pmount doesn't recognise removable disks in jaunty

2009-03-22 Thread Sander van Malssen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pmount

Pmount won't work with /sys in the 2.6.28 kernels used on jaunty.
There's a 0.9.19 release upstream which already has this problem fixed.
One further problem is that pmount 0.9.19 doesn't know about ext4
filesystems (which can be fixed in src/fs.c by simply copying the
relevant line for ext3 and changing the name to ext4).

[Bug 346701] [NEW] bash claims I need to install a program that is installed

2009-03-22 Thread szarak
Public bug reported:

My system is Ubuntu Intrepid 64bit.

In Ubuntu repository there is a package for Django - python web
framework. It provides the same functionality as .tar.gz downloaded from
project's web page. The main difference is that installed from source it
provides utility called django-admin.py. Ubuntu package provides django-
admin (no .py extension).

The problem occurs when you decide to install newer software version from svn
or web page, instead of Ubuntu package. Bash gives an error:
$ django-admin.py
Program django-admin nie jest obecnie zainstalowany. Można go zainstalować
wpisując:
sudo apt-get install python-django
bash: django-admin: polecenie nieodnalezione

wich means, that a program django-admin is not installed and explains
how to install it. It happens even if you use django-admin.py (with
.py extension) which is installed and works well in other shells, like
zsh.

Using full path to that program (/usr/bin/django-admin.py) works.
which django-admin gives no output.
which django-admin.py gives correct path of that script.

I'm not sure wich package provides functionality, which give's hints
what software to install for the command to work.

[Bug 260765] Re: DVD playback broken in Intrepid because of resindvd

2009-03-22 Thread Milan
The only question is: would a SRU be worth the pain or not. If nobody
intends to do it, then let's close the bug, and wait for Jaunty. But
even if ResinDVD is not stable and not installed by default, we must
admit it's a central part of the desktop and it should be taken in to
account.

[Bug 346710] [NEW] sudo should autocomplete all file paths if already authenticated

2009-03-22 Thread Jack Wasey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sudo

with nopasswd: all in your sudoers file, or if authentication has already
been performed during previous recent sudo commands, then using TAB should
acquire root privileges in order to autocomplete paths.

A classic example is /dev/my-volume-group/ which has root-only read
permissions, and therefore cannot be auto-completed in a command like:

sudo mount /dev/my-volume-group/[TAB] does NOT list my lvm partitions,
but I think it should.

far as I know, everybody is focused on bringing Gallium3D in to offer that
support, but it seems it won't be ready before April distro release. Really,
that leaves two options, either use Git Mesa code with Gallium3D and hope
for the best, or hold back Xserver to version 1.5, which I doubt will
happen. However, something DOES need to be done about this.

[Bug 346713] [NEW] grub adds root UUID line which causes error 15

Public bug reported:

straightforward jaunty install (with RAID10 and LVM).

this is due to an extra line: root followed by the correct UUID.

[Bug 346715] [NEW] apt, synaptic, aptitude should make prominent the last changelog entry date

2009-03-22 Thread Jack Wasey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: synaptic

(wishlist)

In order to sift through the large number of applications that do
similar things, the ability to display and/or sort by the most recent
date in the changelog would be very useful.

of course, what would be better is a traffic light, showing the activity
of an upstream project (and activity of debian/ubuntu packaging which is
often decades behind upstream - e.g. drupal). This could be taken from
sourceforge activity rank, for example.

But we already have easily accessible data in the changelog which will
let users know quickly that whatever random project was last updated
four years ago.

i wasn't aware that this chip was associated with this bug.

can you post your dmesg output, or just the bit which may or may not say that
you have an invalid mac address.
please also post ifconfig output, so we can see what your MAC address(es) are
right now.

also try the forcedeth module in my ppa, link above. it's very crude,
but should work if you are getting an invalid mac being recreated each
time.

[Bug 7560] Re: Wastebasket fails with read only directories

2009-03-22 Thread Chris Jeffries
as an 8.04 user I still have the problem. At least this thread told me
where to find the trash. Nautilus is too clever at hiding things.
Sometimes one NEEDS to know what is under the hood.

I disagree with the fix though. Files/folders that the user has no right
to delete should never make it to the trash bin in the first place. In
order for the user to be able to move a file to trash, they should
ALREADY have the right to delete that file.

[Bug 346723] [NEW] Losing my titelbar

2009-03-22 Thread Svento
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Without warning, I've three times lost the titelbar in Firefox. I can't
see the panel on top either and the window also covers my Cairo-dock.
The only way to access other program is to close Firefox from the File
menu. First I thought it was related to Ubuntu 8.10, for the first time
it happended, all programs was affected and I could fix it by starting
up in recovery mode. Then it happened again and I could fix it - though
not permanently, only until logout - by reloading the window manager.
Therefore I blamed the window manager, but appearantly I was wrong,
because the problem remained whether I used Emerald or Metacity - and it
got worse: after some time I couldn't fix it by reloading the window
manager either. So I re-installed the system just to get the problem
again, soon after the re-install, only this time the problem was limited
to Firefox. I re-installed again and made things work for a few weeks
until today. I started to prepare for re-installing Ubuntu when I got
the idea to check if it had to do with just the browser... I found a
backup and started to transfer the files and now it all works again.

I don't really have any good ideas, only some thoughts. Is it a
coincidence I first had the problem in the entire system, then locally
in the browser? Probably not. I believe there is something in the
communication between the system and the program. An other thought is
htat there may be some conflict between many different things in the
system. I've installed a huge amount of bells and whistles... First of
all Firefox and Thunderbird themes, then the desktop theme UbuntuStudio
(which is now removed), then an other window manager than standard -
Emerald - and some features from different desktop themes like
Mac4Lin_1.0. Above that I have the Cairo-dock. They all come from
different sources and may or may not be causing conflicts - I don't
know.

I should add too that I've tried to remove the Firefox addons without
solving the problem.

[Bug 327512] Re: pidgin hangs on space after unbroken wrapped line

2009-03-22 Thread polycarbonate1
This has been happening to me since late last year. Where I've noticed
the problem is in typing and/or copy/pasting long email addresses into
Pidgin. I must point out that a space is not required to trigger the
hang, simply put enough text into the message area to make it need to
wrap, ensuring there is no white-space.

Cheers,

[Bug 253004] Re: Oops in sunrpc:rpc_shutdown_client

2009-03-22 Thread Magnus Hjorth
As I wrote in an earlier comment, I did install the server kernel from
the Intrepid repo and rebooted and since then I haven't seen any oopses
for more than a week. Because this is a server running in production I
can not upgrade the whole distribution just for testing purposes.

If someone could make a kernel package of the 8.04 LTS server kernel
plus the two commits referenced in the bug description, I could test
that kernel to verify that they solve the problem.

[Bug 312745] Re: Black openoffice menu in New Wave Theme

2009-03-22 Thread Dilomo
I agree but there should be made a differentiation between New Wave and
New Wave Dark Menus. The second one does not have this problem and
should be selected if you want to to use the OpenOffice.org suite. I
don't know if DM is shipped in Jaunty but I hope to get v 0.8.01 updated
and used as described in Bug #344953 .

Re: [Bug 233990] Re: Bare lf in mdn message from crashing thunderbird

2009-03-22 Thread André Pirard

Does this happen if you make a new profile with thunderbird-2.0.0.21?

Wouldn't it be more efficient for the sake of Open Software and
everybody's time that a developer looked at my report, found the mistake
which is very very obvious, made a patch in one hour or so and told us
that it's done, rather than your asking my test of every other
Thunderbird release with a new profile in hope the problem be fixed by
chance?
I'm sorry you feel we are not getting to your bugs in a timely manner,
however we have from thousands to tens of thousands of bugs to look after we
cant get to all in a timely manner.

Fortunately, you are helped by people like me who spend much time in
analyzing bugs and providing the needed material to either go on with a
fix like in this case or go on with deeper analysis at the request of a
developer.
All that remains to do is 1) believe 2) link to upstream 3) listen to
their fix announcement.
Not even deal with further analysis, which I can do with the developer
ifever he comes.

[Bug 38171] Re: Partitioner insists on formatting swap unnecessarily

2009-03-22 Thread Jack Wasey
surely this bug is simple to fix? just do not reformat swap!
i'm assuming this happens because swap is autodetected and assigned to be used.
any assignments to the partition table, normally allocating partitions to
paths, result in a format being necessary AT THE END. why swap needs to be
reformated before configuring LVM is a mystery to me.

this is not critical, but NB it will cause other installations to fail
to mount their swap because the UUID is changed on a mkswap.

[Bug 260765] Re: DVD playback broken in Intrepid because of resindvd

2009-03-22 Thread Sebastian Keller
This is not about a SRU for gst-plugins-bad since a newer version of
this package which was iirc supposed to fix most of the bugs got
uploaded in time for intrepid [1], however it did never build correctly
because it depended on a newer version of libcelt which was and still is
not in the repo. So either there would have to be a SRU for libcelt or
the gst-plugins-bad package needs to be changed to not depend on it (if
there is a configure option to disable that or by patching the source so
the code of the celt-plugin matches the previous version that worked
with the older libcelt). As I don't think that many packages depend on
celt/libcelt (it is only jackd and gst-plugins-bad on jaunty) I guess
backporting the jaunty version of it should be the easiest solution -
since disabling celt in gst-plugins-bad might result in other bugs.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Running the Ubuntu desktop 9.04. Alpha 5 all update till this date.

Simply trying to run any media file causes Ubuntu to go to login screen.

I have not seen this bug in 8.10 so I would call this a regression.
As I doing testing on a number of CPU/Video cards I can see that its consistent
over a number of video cards.

[Bug 346733] [NEW] NetworkManager menu connections come up twice or 3 times and you cannot connect using E220 modem.

2009-03-22 Thread hughbert
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 9.04 Alpha 6 AMD64 release.

Package Name: NetworkManager applet 0.7.0.99
I am using my Huawei E220 modem to connect to the internet.

What I was expecting:
One option to connect to the Internet and for it to work.

What happened instead:
When you plug in your modem for the first time you get asked to set the modem
up twice.(When you finish with one wizard you get another wizard asking the
same thing.)

When i click on the icon to connect to the internet i get 2 or 3 options
to connect to the interweb. even though i have only one modem.

It only works correctly when i delete the connection in the edit
connections box, plug it out and plug it back in again and set it up
etc.

I have this same problem, with a Linksys WAG 354 G, and an Intel

I worked around it by changing the speed of the Wireless LAN on the

Hope this helps people find out what the problem with the driver is.

[Bug 346741] [NEW] [Jaunty] No more 3D acceleration with Intel 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller

2009-03-22 Thread Pierre Slamich
Public bug reported:

I migrated to Jaunty as part of testing our software, and it seems there's a
regression in terms of 3D (no more 3D effects and acceleration).
It did work out of the box on Intrepid, but doesn't in Jaunty (edge, and
updated this morning).
