[Bug 346701] [NEW] bash claims I need to install a program that is installed
Public bug reported: My system is Ubuntu Intrepid 64bit. In Ubuntu repository there is a package for Django - python web framework. It provides the same functionality as .tar.gz downloaded from project's web page. The main difference is that installed from source it provides utility called django-admin.py. Ubuntu package provides django- admin (no .py extension). The problem occurs when you decide to install newer software version from svn or web page, instead of Ubuntu package. Bash gives an error: $ django-admin.py Program django-admin nie jest obecnie zainstalowany. Można go zainstalować wpisując: sudo apt-get install python-django bash: django-admin: polecenie nieodnalezione wich means, that a program django-admin is not installed and explains how to install it. It happens even if you use django-admin.py (with .py extension) which is installed and works well in other shells, like zsh. Using full path to that program (/usr/bin/django-admin.py) works. which django-admin gives no output. which django-admin.py gives correct path of that script. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: synaptic (wishlist) In order to sift through the large number of applications that do similar things, the ability to display and/or sort by the most recent date in the changelog would be very useful. of course, what would be better is a traffic light, showing the activity of an upstream project (and activity of debian/ubuntu packaging which is often decades behind upstream - e.g. drupal). [Bug 7560] Re: Wastebasket fails with read only directories
as an 8.04 user I still have the problem. At least this thread told me where to find the trash. Nautilus is too clever at hiding things. Sometimes one NEEDS to know what is under the hood. I disagree with the fix though. Files/folders that the user has no right to delete should never make it to the trash bin in the first place. In order for the user to be able to move a file to trash, they should ALREADY have the right to delete that file. -- Wastebasket fails with read only directories https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/7560 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 346723] [NEW] Losing my titelbar
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0 Without warning, I've three times lost the titelbar in Firefox. I can't see the panel on top either and the window also covers my Cairo-dock. The only way to access other program is to close Firefox from the File menu. First I thought it was related to Ubuntu 8.10, for the first time it happended, all programs was affected and I could fix it by starting up in recovery mode. Then it happened again and I could fix it - though not permanently, only until logout - by reloading the window manager. Therefore I blamed the window manager, but appearantly I was wrong, because the problem remained whether I used Emerald or Metacity - and it got worse: after some time I couldn't fix it by reloading the window manager either. So I re-installed the system just to get the problem again, soon after the re-install, only this time the problem was limited to Firefox. I re-installed again and made things work for a few weeks until today. I started to prepare for re-installing Ubuntu when I got the idea to check if it had to do with just the browser... I found a backup and started to transfer the files and now it all works again. I don't really have any good ideas, only some thoughts. Is it a coincidence I first had the problem in the entire system, then locally in the browser? Probably not. I believe there is something in the communication between the system and the program. An other thought is htat there may be some conflict between many different things in the system. I've installed a huge amount of bells and whistles... First of all Firefox and Thunderbird themes, then the desktop theme UbuntuStudio (which is now removed), then an other window manager than standard - Emerald - and some features from different desktop themes like Mac4Lin_1.0. Above that I have the Cairo-dock. They all come from different sources and may or may not be causing conflicts - I don't know. I should add too that I've tried to remove the Firefox addons without solving the problem. [Bug 327512] Re: pidgin hangs on space after unbroken wrapped line
This has been happening to me since late last year. Where I've noticed the problem is in typing and/or copy/pasting long email addresses into Pidgin. Re: [Bug 233990] Re: Bare lf in mdn message from crashing thunderbird
Does this happen if you make a new profile with thunderbird-2.0.0.21? Wouldn't it be more efficient for the sake of Open Software and everybody's time that a developer looked at my report, found the mistake which is very very obvious, made a patch in one hour or so and told us that it's done, rather than your asking my test of every other Thunderbird release with a new profile in hope the problem be fixed by chance? I'm sorry you feel we are not getting to your bugs in a timely manner, however we have from thousands to tens of thousands of bugs to look after we cant get to all in a timely manner. Fortunately, you are helped by people like me who spend much time in analyzing bugs and providing the needed material to either go on with a fix like in this case or go on with deeper analysis at the request of a developer. All that remains to do is 1) believe 2) link to upstream 3) listen to their fix announcement. [Bug 38171] Re: Partitioner insists on formatting swap unnecessarily
surely this bug is simple to fix? just do not reformat swap! i'm assuming this happens because swap is autodetected and assigned to be used. any assignments to the partition table, normally allocating partitions to paths, result in a format being necessary AT THE END. why swap needs to be reformated before configuring LVM is a mystery to me. this is not critical, but NB it will cause other installations to fail to mount their swap because the UUID is changed on a mkswap. ** Attachment added: 1237672876372.jpg http://launchpadlibrarian.net/24207042/1237672876372.jpg -- Partitioner insists on formatting swap unnecessarily https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/38171 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 260765] Re: DVD playback broken in Intrepid because of resindvd
This is not about a SRU for gst-plugins-bad since a newer version of this package which was iirc supposed to fix most of the bugs got uploaded in time for intrepid [1], however it did never build correctly because it depended on a newer version of libcelt which was and still is not in the repo. So either there would have to be a SRU for libcelt or the gst-plugins-bad package needs to be changed to not depend on it (if there is a configure option to disable that or by patching the source so the code of the celt-plugin matches the previous version that worked with the older libcelt). As I don't think that many packages depend on celt/libcelt (it is only jackd and gst-plugins-bad on jaunty) I guess backporting the jaunty version of it should be the easiest solution - since disabling celt in gst-plugins-bad might result in other bugs. [Bug 183619] Re: [hardy/intrepid] wlan0: AP denied association
I have this same problem, with a Linksys WAG 354 G, and an Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection (rev 61). I worked around it by changing the speed of the Wireless LAN on the Linksys (Wireless, Advanced Wireless settings) from Auto to 24Mb. Hope this helps people find out what the problem with the driver is. -- [hardy/intrepid] wlan0: AP denied association https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/183619 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 346741] [NEW] [Jaunty] No more 3D acceleration with Intel 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller
Public bug reported: I migrated to Jaunty as part of testing our software, and it seems there's a regression in terms of 3D (no more 3D effects and acceleration).
