I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 and had similar irritating problems synchronising my Palm
Tungsten E2 to Evolution via the USB cable link. It kept on timing out because
the calendar sync didn't complete properly. I have now found a work around that
works every time:

In Karmic you are using KMS. With KMS the names of the outputs have changed.
VGA is now VGA1 and LVDS is now LVDS1.
These are the output names you have to use in xrandr commands.
So, most likely, xrandr --output VGA1 --right-of LVDS1 --auto will do something

ok - latest Karmic (as of July 30th) -- all updates applied -- and I
enabled the sideport memory -- no it suspends and resumes!! First-time-
ever-in-Ubuntu-without-doing-anything-special. Wow. I'll try again and
if it works a second time then - wow, just wow!

So I'm still getting the crash with the new code.
I tried to pin down the exact crash using g_assert g_warning
statements, but wasn't successful.
So, one question I have, is how do I easily create a debug version of
this code?

Oh... Ok... I thought it was the same since the crash happened during
the mount dismount, i thought this was related to the fonts...
As a test, can you try to just use the diskiograph portions of your
configuration file and see if that alone will cause any crash?

I tried Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala Alpha 3 (kernel 2.6.31) from a USB
startup disk and I was able to suspend successfully (and very quickly, I
might add!). Can anyone else try and report here?
