The apparent latency on the SSD may or may not be related. It may be a
kernel stall on something else entirely, a lock in the wireless
driver, or pixies in the ether. I don't know at present. What I do

I can confirm a similar problem on a similar setup. The only difference
is the screen never turns on - it just stays black. Or perhaps I'm too

easytag working in the short term (in the long term, perhaps another id3
library should be used).

Can you confirm that you are running GNOME? Does this happen with other
USB storage devices (like USB sticks) as well?

As of today (Karmic 9.10 AMD64 with backports and pre-relase enabled), I
still have this issue (sound skipps / stutters every few seconds) with
vlc only and no other player.
I tried version 1.0.2-1ubuntu2 as well as version 1.0.3 (ppa),
I tried OSS, alsa, pulseaudio modes. It actually sounds as

I did two clean installs with 9.10 karmic. In one of them, the problem
is solved, in the other one, the problem is still present. Since they
are both clean installs (no upgrades), it's ver odd. Maybe it has
something to do with the sequence in which fstab is modified and the
updates are downloaded
