[Bug 505476] [NEW] Slow Randr rotation performance with r300 and XAA

2010-01-10 Thread zK
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Hi,

I'm using Ubuntu karmic 9.10, when using xrandr to rotate screen on my
Dell Latitude XT tablet and XAA i get very slow performance, much like
incorrect refresh rates or something like that.

Drawing windows is very slow and major tearing occurs on the screen.

When using EXA as acceleration method the rotation works fine but i get
rendering corruption in firefox.

[Bug 312756] Re: support graphics card hot switch

2010-01-10 Thread Narciso Cerezo
Hi, I didn't see the comment by Timo requesting no more DSDT.dsl attachments.
But is very disappointing for me seeing this as declined for Karmic and also
for Lucid (which means that an official solution will not be available *at
least* until October 2010).
After many years of using Ubuntu only I had to use the included Windows 7
since battery lasts 10 hours (one of the main reasons I purchased this laptop)
and also I don't have any kind of visual effects on my desktop (which means
I've lost the transparency effect that was so useful for me).
It should not be considered wishlist as it will surely drive users away from
Ubuntu :(
Hot swapping cards is not really the important thing, I would really be happy
if I could select that at boot time or before the x-session is started.
By killing the nvidia card I now have a little more battery, but it is not
enough and not a solution.

[Bug 311869] Re: Add driver for Sentelic Touch pad

2010-01-10 Thread hansvschoot
the driver is integrated in ubuntu lucid, scroll works out of the box in
the 10.4 alpha 1. this is kernel 2.6.32-7

however the fspc settings manager program won't run and in the ubuntu
mouse settings screen there is nothing about a touchpad or the
scrollfunction.

[Bug 505479] [NEW] HP6910p laptop suspends immediately after initial resume from first suspend

2010-01-10 Thread cement_head
Public bug reported:

$ uname -a
Linux methy1 2.6.31-18-generic #55-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 8 14:55:26 UTC 2010 i686
GNU/Linux

This is a bug that has been occurring since Intrepid. Suspend works well, BUT
if the environment changes after the suspend (i.e. AC = battery; dock=
battery) the resume will occur and then the machine will immediately suspend.
Resuming a second time (no power status change) works well and then all is okay.

[Bug 505478] [NEW] kmail always asks for all passphrases if you have several private keys that match OpenPGP message

2010-01-10 Thread LimCore
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdepim

If I have an message that is encrypted for OpenPGP keys A B and C,
and I do have private keys of A and B,
then kmail will always ask me for passhprase to key A, even if key B is already
opened (cached passpharse).

1. have email encrypted for OpenPGP keys A B and C
2. have private key of A and B
3. open that email in kmail
4. you are asked for passprhrase for A
5. cancel it
6. you are asked for passprhrase for B
7. enter it
8. message is decrypted
so far all is ok, but the problem is:

9. select again this email or other similar email
10. you are asked for passphrase to A
11. cancel it
12. message is decrypted (using key B)

Insted, expected result would be to skip step 10 and 11

While one could argue that packages shouldn't build-depend on lilo, I
think that turns back into a there should be a lilo-dev package
complaint.

[Bug 505482] [NEW] euca-bundle-vol dies with Invalid cert

2010-01-10 Thread Eric Hammond
Public bug reported:

  ami-6a28c503
  ubuntu-images-testing-us/ubuntu-lucid-daily-i386-desktop-20100110.manifest.xml

I installed a copy of ec2-ami-tools (to get the EC2 certificate)

echo deb http://us.ec2.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid multiverse |
sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/multiverse.list /dev/null
  sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install -y ec2-ami-tools

And then I ran the following euca2ools command:

  sudo -E euca-bundle-vol \

-c /mnt/cert-*.pem \
-s 10240 \
-e /mnt,/root/.ssh,/home/ubuntu/.ssh \
--ec2cert /etc/ec2/amitools/cert-ec2.pem

This failed with the simple error:

  Invalid cert

Unfortunately, it's not telling me what cert is invalid. When I leave
off the --ec2cert option, it still gives the same error.

This exact same process works fine on an Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic AMI like

[Bug 505481] [NEW] Closed this reprt - Fixed

2010-01-10 Thread Bill Shepherd
Public bug reported:

Brother solution center seem to have made it very difficult to
understand by a newbie, what Commands and scripts I need to use to
install LPR and CUPSWRAPPER

To complicate matters I cannot load the real driver MFC215C I have to
use MFC210C does this mean that the Files or the data in the files
need to be changed to make the real printer MFC215C work.

I did manage to get this printer working back 8.10. Brother appear
to have made it more difficult on their Website, as they do not explain
what the commands are doing.

Up to now I have managed to load on my spare PC about 6 different OS's
but with out the Brother printer, Did have an old HP which worked every
time.

Without a printer the Linux system is no good. Every thing else works straight
out of the box. In Linux Format they could do with a good article on printing,
and all the pitfalls, and work rounds.
I am still a Linux fan
Running a Novatech PC AMD Phenom II Quad Core 965 3.4Ghzs - Linux Ubuntu 9.10
downloaded from LXFDVD127 plus upgardes from the internet.

Bill Shepherd

[Bug 505278] Re: ssh-add -D deleting all identities does not work. Also, why are all identities auto-added?

2010-01-10 Thread LimCore
Upstream says that this is security vulnerability.
I agree.
An important one too!

User can have action (like shortcut, screensaver, timeout, whatever) that does
ssh-key -D,
and he expect that his SSH keys are now secure... while they are still
accessible!

Upstream also says its most likely a problem with seahorse or other ssh
agent; Although when I killed all my agents (seahorse*, ssh-agent) the
same problem seemed to exist still - read comments in upstream bug
report.

[Bug 505489] [NEW] wizard req'ing JRE fail to start (solution hint)

2010-01-10 Thread fbusse
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-writer

In OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 (from the Ubuntu repositories), the letter wizard fails
to start: After calling the wizard from the menu (German version
Datei-Assistenten-Brief..., translates to something like
File-Wizards-Letter...) happens --- just nothing :-/

And it's the same with other wizards (German version Fax, Agenda and
Web-Seiten, translates to something like facsimile, agenda and
webpages).

Sun Java 1.6.0 is installed in two alternative flavors:
 - /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.15/jre (standard installation)
 - /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre (manually added)
Activating either in Extras-Option-OpenOffice.org-Java makes no visible
difference as to the above failure.

With Java deactivated (got this hint in a German forum), OOo complains
(see attachment) - as one would have expected - about needing a JRE for
starting the letter wizard and asks if the same should now be activated.
The same error message contains a further hint: The package openoffice
.org-java-common needs to be installed! (And indeed this solves the
problem.)

Where a package is vital for a function, this one should either be
installed by default or at the very least be proposed for installation
when the function is called!

[Bug 505481] Re: Closed this reprt - Fixed

2010-01-10 Thread Bill Shepherd
Restarted with a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10 from LXF 127
Using Brother solution center. Download loaded the two files for MFC210C
Printer is a MFC215C - Have to used 210 Drivers.
With other commands from a Ubuntu How to install MFC210C document
Managed to get Brother printer to work.
What is not clear, should this have worked with Karmic Koala?
Don't ask for any more detail, unable to supply.
Printer now working.

One fact I did find out Brother printers MFC465CN and MFC215C will not
work in Ubuntu 9.10 AMD 64 bit. They only work in 32bit.

This can now be closed.

I would also state that the original bug report was filed in 2008, and
was incomplete at the time ( simple 1 paragraph description, no 'how-to-

never commented since originally describing the bug.

@dracflamloc

If you still are experiencing the problem, please re-test with 9.10 and
report your results.

In the future you can ask people to use apport-collect -p network-

[Bug 505494] [NEW] Mouse events fail frequently and unpredictably, requiring kwin restart

2010-01-10 Thread Patrick Dawkins
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

There is confusion between a number of related bugs (which didn't show
up for me in Do any of the following bugs...). #478464 seems most
similar to this but that's dubiously marked as a duplicate of #41301.

DESCRIPTION
It occurs within a few minutes after starting KDE or restarting kwin with kwin
--replace. The mouse cursor continues to move where it should, but clicking
either does nothing or affects an unexpected (inactive) window, and gestures
such as pushing into the desktop corners also do nothing. It's as if kwin
thinks the mouse cursor is frozen somewhere other than where it appears.

Everything other than mouse events continues to work as expected:
controlling KDE with keyboard shortcuts shows that applications,
compositing and desktop effects are all fine.

WORKAROUND
Restart kwin with kwin --replace.

None of the workarounds mentioned in the discussion for bug #41301 work
for this, which is why I think it's different.

BACKGROUND
I'm not running Xinerama or dual screens, I have a USB mouse which works
perfectly on my other machine, my Kubuntu 9.10 retains most of its default
settings, windows are set to Click to Focus, and my graphics card is nVidia
GeForce 6100 with the nvidia-glx-185 driver.

I run regular apt updates, and first noticed this bug on 8 Jan 2010,
having run KDE with very few problems for several months. I think the
automatic updates on 8 Jan were for Firefox and GIMP (upgrades), but
this bug occurs whether or not Firefox or GIMP are running. I have not
made any configuration changes recently.

doesn't change anything. The model entry is still necessary and the
subwoofer is still silent :-( .

2010-01-10 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
One last thing before reporting it upstream.
Could you install strace:
$ sudo apt-get install strace
and run as root
$ strace -f -tt grub-probe -v --target=device / 21 | tee grub-probe.strace.log

Attach the file grub-probe.strace.log to this report.
Thanks.

[Bug 505496] [NEW] Not possible to set document to landscape

2010-01-10 Thread David Gradwell
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

When running OpenOffice 3.1 Writer on both Ubuntu and on WIndows 7 I can
not change the page orientation from portrait to landscape (both A4).
The orientation does change in the File/Printer Settings/properties
window. It just does not have any effect on the document layout.

I've tried this on 2 different Ubuntu machines and one Windows 7
machine.

Happy to email the document on request.

If I open a brand new document I get the same problem.
