Studio 1555 did not have brightness control. After updating to kernel
-17 it was the same (no brightness). Was able to fix this by adding

Just installed the 185 driver. I had to copy over my xorg.conf from
karmic but all is running well on Lucid now. Compiz is running too.
Systemadmin Hardware drivers not working yet though. It shows

Same to me. I use kubuntu 9.10 AMD64 on a Dell Studio. It was an
upgrade-installation from 9.04.
I've got two users: user1 has the problem as described above, user2 not (both
existed also before upgrade from 9.04)
As I played around a bit, I recognized that even some other
system-notifications
This bug (along with the one moving slides order in the slide sorter)
makes OpenOffice very frustrating to use.
This happening on amd64 / x86_64 machine, 4 gigs ram, 2 months old,
running fully up2date Karmic 9.10.
Happy to provide more info and test anything possible.

The workaround for this issue is to remove python2.4 (nothing on my
system depended on it).

You should install (in Lucid) the package nvidia-current (190.53-0ubuntu4)
and the package nvidia-settings (190.53-0ubuntu1).
Then run in console:
sudo nvidia-xconfig
And finally reboot.
