I think I understand my problem, and also have a bypass.
When I created the clean karmic maven schroot system, I was surprised to
find that it responded OK to mvn --help, because this simple command
would always crash on my production karmic system.
I went back to my production karmic system -
I finally found waht the problem is:
the script '/usr/bin/logger'. In a brand new Ubuntu 8.04 installation
this is actually an ELF executable. But on my old Ubuntu 8.04 (but
regularly updated) OS is was a shell script.
I simply inserted on the first line the command 'exit' to avoid the
script to

problem? If so, then is there a good reason to disable it in the first
place?

The real problem is actually in euca2ools. The issue is that it
assumes HOME will be defined in the environment and ends up running
os.path.join(HOME, ...) with HOME as None and then everything blows
up. The 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'endswith' bubbles up
as a result of this.

Okay, worked on this a bit here today at the Distro Sprint.
We enabled Eucalyptus' DNS with: DISABLE_DNS=N in
/etc/eucalyptus/eucalyptus.conf.
This seems to work well enough to provide dynamically generated host
names to vm's. See:

eucalyptus-nc definitely is not surviving libvirt-bin restarts. It
loses the socket. Is there an obvious way we can get eucalyptus-nc to

Can't see any real difference. However this is also true for just

user account and re-created it to make sure I didn't have a lot of
strange settings.

I've tested karmic alpha 2 and there is a little change. When you try to
hibernate, the computer actually turns itself of, but when you restart
it, it just starts normally, as when you shut down it normally. There is
no change with suspending to ram.

This bug does not seem to affect 32-bit installations. At least those with ATI
cards.
I tested this with 32-bit Lucid-alpha2 in a laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon
9700.

The description of the package mention that it is not capable of be a
tftp server for PXE booting. The description also mention alternative
tftpd servers which has this capability.

This is not fixed in Lucid on amd64. I can not activate the option set
date and time automatically. I get an error on applying. The error
message is the following Authentifizierung nicht möglich, Aktion kann
nicht ausgeführt werden: 4, - which means that there is a problem with
the authentication
