What bothers me about not having tooltips on these items is
discoverability - tooltips are a superb way which people will be
familiar with to discover what something is for without having to click
on it. It's all very well to say click on it and look at the menu, but

I suspect this is a side-effect of bug #540252 - when a deferred trigger
fails that is not reported as a error by dpkg, but the package that owns
the trigger goes into "unconfigured" state. This leads to errors like

Hi Micah,
I didnt get thru updating this bug report before I have to leave, I am
the original uploader of gears and have patched and got it working with
FF36 and Xul 9.2.
So i have essentially done the work, was just opening the bug for the
FFe. If you haven't done it yet, I will carry on...

I just found out that all the 'sudo -u gdm gconf-editor && etc.' hacks
were just wiped out by the latest GDM update (because the %gconf...
files in /var/lib/gdm got overwritten).
We need to find a way to allow customization of GDM in a way that
resists update, via a sensible '/etc/gdm/custom.conf'
This bug is fixed for me, too, with the new 64bit beta 3 flashplugin
from adobe.com (http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html).

Fixed in 0.5.2 (Lucid). We don't use .dmrc any more, but .profile
instead.

Just a quick update: the original problem (wrong signal clocks) has been
fixed upstream and the bug no longer appears with a 2.6.33 kernel
(haven't tried a .32 kernel recently). There is only a minor issue
remaining with load detection, which causes the monitors to blink when
