I installed 10.04 Lucid Lynx last night on my 1201N. For the most part,
everything is working. However I too am experiencing issues with certain
function keys no longer working. The same results as the other two
posts. These keys DID function in 9.10, so it's something specific to
the upgrade.

Unfortunately can't reproduce that because is something that appeared on the
LCD monitor, not at painting of the images.
And since some days didn't notice It happening anymore. I guess it was
corrected by one of those many updates.

Sorry for not being clear before but here is some clarification:
keymap -i doens't produce any output for brightness up/down. In fact,
none of fn+fX keys show anything when I keymap -i input/event4. For
example, I can use fn+f9 to enable/disable touchpad but keymap -i
doesn't show anything.
The problem here is actually in a patch shipped in the debian directory,
fix-python-plugins-dir.diff
This is already fixed in Debian, I'll merge the changes.

Note that I first noticed this because I had been playing music on a
dvd+rw with Rhythmbox and long after I had stopped listening to musc, I
hit the eject button on the drive and put the livecd in the drive to try
and make a bootable usb flash stick with the boot disk creator, but
apparently
I can second this. I just upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 and I am having
the same issue, when I try to change the visual effects setting from
none to either normal or extra the keep setting box just gets hung up
when I choose keep setting, and none of the change take effect.

changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed
there are many bugs about a not working right alt key. and there are
many bugs about a not working shortcut to change keyboard layout (left
alt + right alt). as far as i can tell fixing the right alt key would
also fix the keyboard layout problem.
