[Bug 248870] Re: [upstream] Autosave causes document to scroll back to cursor position

2010-05-17 Thread hsm flxCore
Thanks Jeffrey for your response!
Two point are still unclear to me:

A. is autosaving taking place in another thread than the display & typing?
B. with option 2 I meant to copy a snapshot of the file and process this in
parallel (first copy in memory, then I/O write the file). I think that I/O
writing the original file interferes with using the original file at the same
time, right?

Anyway, working on option 3 is the best thing to do right now, I guess.

[Bug 572246] Re: Simple scan crashes with "buffer overflow detected"

2010-05-17 Thread David Erosa
I think Nicolas Valcarcel found the problem and is preparing a patch. He
found that the problem is with network devices with a too long name,
that causes the overflow, tha't why it only happens with the wifi
connected.

[Bug 573477] Re: Mdadm array fails to assemble on boot.

2010-05-17 Thread TrinitronX
ok, finished rebuilding it and ran "sudo mdadm --examine" on every device and
partition. The info looks correct for:
/dev/sdb1
/dev/sdc1
/dev/sdd1
/dev/sde1

It reports "mdadm: No md superblock detected" for:

/dev/md0
/dev/sdb
/dev/sdc
/dev/sdd
/dev/sde

So hopefully this means that no superblock is on the devices themselves,
and only the partitions. (I think I must have made the mistake of adding
/dev/sde rather than /dev/sde1 the very first time, which is probably
what caused all this mess).

[Bug 581747] Re: Mensaje de la papelera de reciclaje

2010-05-17 Thread David Planella
fmonroy,

Thanks for reporting the bug and making Ubuntu work better with
translations.

Could you be more detailed on what the actual problem is? It would be
also helpful if you could describe the steps with which the bug can be
reproduced.

If it's simply a matter of proposing a better translation, I'd recommend
you to get in touch with the Ubuntu Spanish translators at
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-l10n-es instead of filing a bug.

Thanks!

tweak it a little and tested it works on NV53

Add following

Restart and problem is fix. I am looking forward to have it workout in

[Bug 574044] Re: mountall eats 100% cpu with nfs in fstab

2010-05-17 Thread Allan Pratt
I have figured out this bug. It has nothing to do with nfs. The
"mountall" program is entering an infinite loop in the "cut_options"
function because of a logic error in the string processing.

The cut_options function exists to strip mountall-only options
(showthrough, optional, bootwait, nobootwait) from the option string
that appears in fstab, while preserving the other options -
"rw,users,soft,intr" in the original poster's case.

But cut_options has a bug that causes an infinite loop when there is an
option that it wants to strip, and that option is followed by a comma -
that is, when a strippable option isn't the last option in the list.

You'll only hit the infinite loop if the fstab entry actually needs to
be mounted. You won't see it if you edit fstab to change the option
string for an entry that's already been mounted, or if you add an entry
for a device that doesn't exist.

To repro this on a running system, first kill the mountall process
running with --daemon, then add a line to fstab for a device which COULD
be mounted, but which is NOT currently mounted, and which has a
strippable option (like "nobootwait") followed by some other option.
Like this:

/dev/sda1 /mnt/xxx ext4 nobootwait,ro 0 0

In place of /dev/sda1, use any partition of any block-special device
which is not already mounted. The device you pick doesn't really have to
be mountable as ext4, because mountall will hang before it actually runs
"mount." But the device you pick has to pass all of mountall's other
sanity checks. As for the /mnt/xxx part, mountall will create that mount
point for you if it doesn't exist, so you'll have to delete it after
your experimenting.

Having edited fstab appropriately, run "sudo mountall -v" and watch it
hang and consume 100% CPU. Debug it, and hit ^C, and you will see you're
in cut_options (or else a function that it calls). You are infinite
looping with opts+i pointing to a comma, so j = strcspn(opt+i,",=") is
always zero and you never advance.

As for the fix: honestly, I tried to pick apart the logic with i, j, k,
and +1 and -1 and memmove and i-- but I got all twisted up. When this
logic strips an option, it keeps everything after it (including the
comma) in the case where more options follow. But when that happens,
opt+i ends up pointing at the comma, and from then on you never advance.
If I had to fix this bug myself I would rewrite the string-handling
logic completely, probably copying the options to KEEP from the original
string to the new one instead of using memmove to strip OUT the options
I wanted to remove. But that's just me.

[Bug 26426] Re: yaboot cannot handle kernels and/or initrds >6MB uncompressed for netbooting

2010-05-17 Thread TJ
In case it helps someone else, here's the complete yaboot.conf from my
TFTP server that leads to an iBook G3 starting the Live CD environment.

The TFTP server is combined with NFS and loop-mounted Ubuntu ISO images.

/var/lib/tftpboot$ cat yaboot.conf
device=enet:
partition=0
timeout=60
init-message="Ubuntu GNU/Linux NetBoot"
default=ubuntu-10.04-desktop-powerpc

image=/iso-image/ubuntu-10.04-desktop-powerpc/casper/powerpc/vmlinux
label=ubuntu-10.04-desktop-powerpc
initrd=/iso-image/ubuntu-10.04-desktop-powerpc/casper/powerpc/initrd
append="boot=casper netboot=nfs
nfsroot=10.254.251.2:/srv/boot/iso-image/ubuntu-10.04-desktop-powerpc"

I have a sophisticated shell script that auto-configures a PXE
environment for multiple Intel ISO images. Here's the resulting
configuration just for the PPC ISO images:

$ sudo losetup  -a
/dev/loop4: [fb03]:262152
(/home/all/iso-image/ubuntu/ubuntu-10.04-desktop-powerpc.iso)

$ mount
/dev/loop4 on /var/lib/tftpboot/iso-image/ubuntu-10.04-desktop-powerpc type
iso9660 (rw)
/var/lib/tftpboot/iso-image/ubuntu-10.04-desktop-powerpc on
/srv/boot/iso-image/ubuntu-10.04-desktop-powerpc type none (rw,bind)

$ sudo exportfs
/srv/boot/iso-image/ubuntu-10.04-desktop-powerpc
0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0

[Bug 557072] Re: system does not power off

2010-05-17 Thread Jacob Zimmermann
Yeah, I agree we should create a separate bug for touchpad issues.
Anyway with bios F.26 & maverick kernel I can middle-click and right-
click respectively by tapping on the bottom-center edge or bottom-right
corner. Multi-finger does not work though. "circular scrolling" means
you can scroll by making circles with your finger on the touchpad,
basically it's a great emulation of the mouse wheel. It can be enabled
in System/Preferences/Pointing device (Scrolling tab).

NB: I have the psmouse loaded and the "synaptics" xorg driver as well
(loaded automatically by xorg, nothing special in xorg.conf).

[Bug 577648] Re: All USB ports suddenly stop working

2010-05-17 Thread Alan Vincent
So trying the system from a 10.04 live CD, I experience the same
issue...no USB response after a period of time. Each time it will boot
up with full usb support for both mouse, keyboard, external drive
etc...If I leave it for a bit, then everything connected to the USB
ports quits working. Doesn't matter which usb port i try..front ports,
back ports, none of them work.. I followed the instructions for the
apport (while running off the live CD). I'm not sure exactly what you
are wanting me to do to test the upstream kernal. I have no clue how I
would go about testing it and reporting back any sort of valuable
information. I'm not a complete linux newbie (been running it for
several years now) but I really don't knwo what I'm doing when it comes

Re: [Bug 510717] Texts for snoozing a reminder not visible in Thunderbird Lightning with Ambiance theme

2010-05-17 Thread Valeryan_24
Hello,

On Ububtu Lucid with default theme Ambiance, there is no problem with
OpenOffice, so perhaps thing comes from NewWave Dark, but for Sunbird /
Thunderbird Lightning reminder, as tado said, there is still the bad
view for snoozing alarm : texts are unreadable until mouse focusing on
it because too light (color very close to the background).

It is not a major bug but one of those little papercuts which are
causing some desagreements in daily use.

And it is for default LTS theme, so if problem comes from the theme, it
would be very great if a solution is found.

Thanks in advance. Best regards,

Xavier

[Bug 577648] Re: All USB ports suddenly stop working

2010-05-17 Thread Alan Vincent
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Been having a problem with all usb ports suddenly ceasing to work. It
  first appeared in 9.10 several months ago and is now appearing in 10.4
  I don't know what package controls USB operations, and I get no error
  messages when this happens. since both my mouse and keyboard are USB,
  both cease to function so I cannot get any additional details. I have
  tried unplugging and replugging in the devices into both the same and
  into different USB ports and functionality does *not* resume. The only
  way I have been able to regain usb functionality is a hard reboot, upon
  which it immediately starts working again. This has happened while I
  have worked in multiple applications so I don't think it is application
  specific and is a problem with the operating system.

Hello,

That's right for libfolks, here is the mail received on the bugzilla
list for this point.

And as others I hope for this feature which is essential today with
multiplication of networks (Facebook, Jabber, MSN...).

Best regards.

Work is going on to implement metacontacts using the new libfolks library which
will be able to support what ever crazy backend you may want and isn't
restricted to Empathy, help on it would surely be appreciated. See here
http://telepathy.freedesktop.org/wiki/Folks for more info.

[Bug 525807] Re: [upstream] [3.2.1] OOo Slideshow and Fullscreen modes - not full screen under compiz

2010-05-17 Thread Winjeel
After checking this issue out on Open Office presentation, on a second
monitor, ahead of a presentation that I'll do in a couple of weeks, the
second monitor has the same problem. Furthermore, MS PowerPoint (in
WINE) has the same issue. This is REALLY urgent. I need to be sure that
my presentation will work! Last ditch would be to... gulp... install XP!

[Bug 26426] Re: yaboot cannot handle kernels and/or initrds >6MB uncompressed for netbooting

2010-05-17 Thread TJ
This issue affects Lucid on G3 iMacs too.

Installing Kenneth Finnegan's yaboot binary from comment #18 to the TFTP
server solves the issue. Both vmlinuz and initrd load, and the kernel
starts. Sizes are:

/var/lib/tftpboot$ ls -l iso-image/ubuntu-10.04-desktop-powerpc/casper/powerpc/
total 18360
-r--r--r-- 2 root root 9241444 2010-04-28 14:37 initrd
-r--r--r-- 2 root root 9558100 2010-04-16 12:44 vmlinux

/var/lib/tftpboot$ ls -l yaboot*
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 163886 2010-05-18 06:18 yaboot
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root295 2010-05-18 05:26 yaboot.conf

/var/lib/tftpboot$ cat yaboot.conf
device=enet:
partition=0
timeout=60
init-message="Ubuntu GNU/Linux NetBoot"
default=ubuntu-10.04-desktop-powerpc

image=/iso-image/ubuntu-10.04-desktop-powerpc/casper/powerpc/vmlinux
label=ubuntu-10.04-desktop-powerpc
initrd=/iso-image/ubuntu-10.04-desktop-powerpc/casper/powerpc/initrd

This currently boots to busybox since I've not yet added the NFS root to
the kernel's command-line, but hopefully it will help others.

[Bug 329968] Re: [upstream] [3.2] No suggestions from spell checker if two are installed (OpenMedSpel)

2010-05-17 Thread Jesse Rimshas
Okay, FWIW I must sheepishly report that I did find a workaround for
OpenMedSpel, at least. Changing my language (Tools-->Languages-->All
Text) from English, American to English, Canadian allows me to use the
Canadian dictionary and OpenMedSpel dictionary at the same time. So far
it appears to be working fine. Perhaps the American English dictionary
is somehow corrupt?

I'm running Linux Mint 8 on an eeepc 1005 with OpenOffice.org 3.1.1

I got the solution from Hagar of Ubuntu Forums, although editing
Dictionaries.xcu didn't work for me--I had to use the menus in
OpenOffice:
http://ohioloco.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9318343#post9318343

I hope that helps.

than the window... among which I'd count notifications.

[Bug 566901] Re: [kubuntu] OOo creates empty files with incremental number on cifs shares

I've removed the OOo 3.2 that comes with Lucid.

I downloaded the deb version from the OpenOffice.org website -

I'm not getting the blank files created when saving with that version.

Both tell me that they are OpenOffice.org 3.2.0 OOO320m12 (Build9483)

[Bug 579928] Re: Evolution crashes almost randomly

2010-05-17 Thread ubuntolo
Well, I think this should be considered a major: never experienced such a
disaster with Evolution, and I'm using it from two years ago. Evolution just
keeps crashing randomly: it can happen while editing a message or simply by
itself, not necessarily while sending/receiving messages, but often while
(apparently) doing absolutely nothing. The program just closes silently,
without any kind of warning, eventually it recovers uncompleted messages at
next restart, but it continues with it's strange behavior.
I hope this can be fixed quickly, because e-mailing is a quite fundamental
activity.

[Bug 582116] [NEW] Open Office presenter doesn't go to full screen for slideshows

2010-05-17 Thread Winjeel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

for professional presenters, this is a rather urgent matter. Open Office
presentation v3.2 does not properly go to full screen after pressing F5
(or menu equivalent) on Ubuntu 10.04. The top and bottom menu bars
remain in view. When these menu bars are moved aside, the window bar
(with the filename, close, reduce and large view buttons) is now also in
view for the first few slides.
