same here. i never used tracker but the daemon was running. after
killing tracker, i get results again.
i'm still wondering why this never happened earlier because it seems to
me like i'd seen tracker processes running in karmic as well without
inhibiting the nautilus search...

gnome-panel's indicator applet is occasionly wrong loaded
It looks like this bug is caused by the fact that VisualVM build script
(buildnative-linux64.sh) uses gcc32 on 64bit linux. See also
http://mail.openjdk.java.net/pipermail/distro-pkg-
dev/2010-May/009097.html and my reply. It can be fixed easily by
changing gcc32 to gcc in buildnative-linux64.sh
