Is this always an issue? Are you sure you have all dependencies installed
correctly?
I notice that aspell is a dependency, so if it were not available, this could
lead to this behavior.
One way to test would be to issue that command in a terminal:

recently upgraded to 9.10 and the Gnometris runs ever so slow compared to

Under Burning Speed only Maximum Speed and (for example) 51.9x (CD) are

With a slow re-writable CD this is not a problem but with write-once CDs

Personally I can reproduce the bug by trying to change themes on my own
system. I cannot explain how to reproduce it somewhere else as i'm
unaware of the cause and cannot tie the beginning of the changed
behaviour to a specific action or change that may have triggered it.
