I'm in favor of adding these patches in Maverick. As it stands, I have
long run World of Warcraft using the vivnet PPA build, and experienced
no issues in it or other games, whereas the ALSA driver results in
crackling sound.

Hi Andrew, good to hear that the core problem leading to this is being

Today I booted up my laptop. It is currently running without a battery.
I notices the HD spin down and looked in the log. It had set the system
as running without AC - which is false since the battery was out of the
machine. When I plugged the battery in the system put itself in AC-mode.

I just booted this laptop off the Maverick Alpha 3 CDROM and left it while I
went shopping.
Firefox was running with a page loaded which refreshed every 5 minutes or so
and nothing else.
The output of dmesg shows that this problem still occurs.

in combination with Bug #599643 this is some sort of usability nightmare
as the UI freeze for a long time just to post a cryptical error and the
average user might think this app i very crappy, what it isn't is.
wouldn't an easy temporay solution be that the save button just opens a
simple window
